Program description: Program description: This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research and program evaluation in malaria, HIV and other diseases. It is in this mandate that the program is seeking for motivated, pro-active individuals to fill the following vacancies in the GAP TREAT/ARV Program

Position: Research Officer (1 positions) MR 11 (JOB GROUP P)

Location: Kisumu

Reports to: Care and Treatment Technical Advisor

Essential requirements:

  • Education: - Masters Degree in Public Health, Social OR Health Sciences,
  • 2 years work experience; 1 year or more in a supervisory position.

        DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Interest and experience in public health and HIV information management preferred.
  • Experience working within the Ministry of Health infrastructure preferred.
  • Good written and spoken English,
  • Computer skills is required
  • Knowledge of good written and spoken Kiswahili and dholuo is an added advantage
  • General Knowledge of Epidemiology and HIV/AIDS
  • Skills and abilities: strong management, organizational and leadership skills required. Should be able to operate independently and posses problem solving skills.

Job Description: The Research Officer will report directly to the Technical Advisor, Care and Treatment and will be responsible for day-to-day implementation and coordination of Gap Treat Project Activities.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Complete and prepare all data collection instruments
  2. Participate in the hiring and direct a team in quality data collection
  3. Supervise data collection in selected Districts in Nyanza Province
  4. Work collaboratively with Ministry of Health Teams in Health facilities in Nyanza Province.
  5. Work collaboratively with Gap care teams; data managers, in particular to data collection issues
  6. Ensure data quality is maintained throughout.
  7. Troubleshoot logistical and technical issues while in the field
  8. Ensure participant privacy and confidentiality is maintained
  9. Follow directions and instructions from supervisors in GAP/field station program
  10. Assist with Report writing
  11. Perform other duties as maybe assigned by management

Terms of Employment: A six (6) 1 Year renewable Contract as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary negotiable within grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competence.
