Program Description: The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP), is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW). It is a dynamic comprehensive HIV prevention, research, care and treatment program in Kenya. It is a rapidly expanding program. Due to its continued growth, the program is seeking motivated, pro-active individuals to fill the following vacancies for the Study for HIV and Antenatal care Integration in Pregnancy (SHAIP) Study.

Position: Assistant Study Coordinator - Clinical Vacancy No. FN-22-09

Location: Migori/Rongo District

Job Summary: Working under the Study Coordinator in close collaboration with the FACES PMTCT team, the incumbent will need to have an expertise in HIV management and will be involved in the implementation of the SHAIP study in Migori and Rongo Districts. S/he will support clinical mentorship in all aspects of PMTCT services to nursing and other clinic staff at the 16 study sites, following the FACES PMTCT program guidelines and approach. The position is 70% clinical and 30% capacity and systems building. This is not a research position.

Key Requirements:

Education:

  • Minimum- Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN/KRN/M) or Clinical medicine.
  • Should be registered by the respective body and possess a valid practicing license.
  • NASCOP-approved training in adult and pediatric ART and PMTCT would be a plus.
  • Background in public health is desirable.

Prior Work Experience:

  • At least three years of experience in a progressively responsible position in the management of HIV service delivery programs is required.
  • Knowledge of maternal child health clinic (MCH) operations required.
  • Experience in a research set up and mentorship are added advantage.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • He/she must possess thorough knowledge of the technical areas of this position and must possess general knowledge of the Government of Kenya and NGO service delivery policies and programs in the health sector especially related to PMTCT.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to monitor, gather and evaluate information of broad scope and complexity in the areas of RH, FP and HIV and use this to develop systems in their assigned district.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in both English and Kiswahili. Knowledge of Dholuo is an added advantage.
  • Ability to work in a stressful and psychologically demanding environment and extensive travelling required.
  • Must be a self-starter with strong diplomatic, training, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Must be competent in using various computer software applications including Microsoft Office programs and be familiar with web-based programs.
