The Nairobi offices of the KEMRI / Wellcome Trust Research Programme requires a member of the technical team (a non-research post) to support the work of research and administrative staff in the following areas:

The Nairobi offices of the KEMRI / Wellcome Trust Research Programme requires a member of the technical team (a non-research post) to support the work of research and administrative staff in the following areas:
- Development of data entry systems based on research questionnaires and organisation and oversight of data entry as required
- Development of direct data entry systems using laptops / netbooks and personal digital assistants (PDAs)
- Database design, database description, archiving and systems for secure access and back-up
- Distribution of data in a variety of formats in response to research needs
- Support to development and updating of the intranet and websites
- Development and support for administrative information systems eg. equipment inventories, billing systems etc
- ICT ‘help-desk’ support for staff
- Support for the ICT manager liaise with service providers and vendors for the adequate provision of supplies and services
- Assist in planning for systems upgrades/maintenance and IT infrastructure changes, install systems, network components and software
- Monitoring of mission-critical applications such as MS Exchange, Active Directory and MYSQL Database
- Provide software and hardware support to users
- Where appropriate to provide cover for the ICT manager for short periods.
Requirements
Necessary Skills / Attributes
Necessary Skills / Attributes
- Higher Diploma or Degree in ICT / Computer studies
- Experience in Windows network environments and Windows Server Backup Systems
- Experience in first level network/desktop technical support
- Experience in LAN Installation and Support
- Proficiency in major RDBMSs e.g. MySQL, Ms SQL server, Postgres
- Experience with data entry and database design and management
- Experience with all MS Office suite of programs
- Good communication and writing skills.
Skills / Attributes that are highly advantageous
- N+ and A+ Certification
- Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) (Windows/Exchange Server/SQL)
- Experience in developing data collection tools using PDAs
- Experience in research data collection in field settings
- Experience in / knowledge of Open Source software.
