ChildFund Kenya has secured funding for the implementation of a community managed savings micro-finance project designed to enable grandmothers taking care of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS in selected sites in Rachuonyo District mobilize capital to meet the children’s basic needs and for enterprise development.
ChildFund Kenya is therefore looking for experienced and qualified personnel to fill the following positions in this new project that is expected to commence in January 2010.
Project Officer

Reporting to ChildFund Kenya’s Economic Empowerment Manager , this position is responsible for the overall implementation and management of the project.

Project Officer

Reporting to ChildFund Kenya’s Economic Empowerment Manager , this position is responsible for the overall implementation and management of the project.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning, coordination and execution of project activities including, monitoring and evaluations (both internal and external); .
- Timely preparation and submission of donor progress reports in accordance with donor contracts;
- Initiating any procurement requisitions;
- approval of expenditures for the project;
- Facilitating partnerships with Government relevant Ministries and other development stakeholders in the operational area;
- Ensuring integration of the project with other ongoing programs.
The ideal candidate is expected to have:
- a degree in the Social Sciences or related field;
- a minimum of three years experience mobilizing communities to implement development projects;
- working with Non-Governmental and/or Community Based Organizations;
- demonstrated experience in donor report writing;
- budget tracking and expenditure analysis, and;
- ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision
Field Officers

Reporting to the Project Officer, the field officers will be in charge of

Reporting to the Project Officer, the field officers will be in charge of
- mobilizing community support for the successful implementation of the project;
- training, mobilizing and organizing grandmothers in selected project sites to participate in the VS&L Groups;
- training interested grandmothers in the VS&L groups in Selection, Planning and Management (SPM) of Income Generating Activities (IGA);
- coordinating the collection of data from groups involved in VSL & SPM activities and ensuring its timely submission to the Project Officer;
- mentoring and trouble-shooting issues arising in the field and;
- promptly preparing and submitting monthly progress reports
In both positions, knowledge of the local language will be an added advantage
