Program Officer-Urban Slums Project Job Vacancy: PROGRAM OFFICER-URBAN SLUMS PROJECT Jhpiego

Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, is an international NGO supporting health programs to improve the health of women and their families.

Jhpiego-Kenya works in close collaboration with both the Ministry of Medical Services and the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation in the areas of HIV, Malaria, TB, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Reproductive Health and Family Planning.

We are currently recruiting an experienced Programme Officer to work with the urban slum communities in addressing community health challenges.

We are currently recruiting an experienced individual with excellent technical skills who is a team player, dedicated, hard working,innovative, highly motivated and able to work in a high pressure environment requiring multi-tasking.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and program support for Jhpiego’s urban slums project
  • Assist in the development of tools and strategies for improving the health urban slums residents
  • Represent Jhpiego at meetings of local, district and provincial health authorities, partners and stakeholders.
  • Strengthen linkages between health facilities and communities
  • Support community ownership of health
  • Implement the projects’ set priorities and plans for the successful implementation of community health programs
  • Provide administrative support to the project; including preparation of activity budgets and work plans
  • Organize workshops, trainings and other meetings as required
  • Prepare annual, quarterly and monthly reports as required
  • Support the development and deployment of community health workers
  • Assist with monitoring and evaluation of the project
Qualifications
  • A basic university degree in social sciences or a health related field is required
  • Two years experience in community work in urban slums
  • Experience in working with MOH and training both service providers and/or community health workers
  • Excellent analytical, communication and report writing skills
  • Excellent understanding of reproductive health issues and the community strategy
  • Innovativeness in addressing community health challenges
Added Advantages
  • Extensive knowledge of MOH core function and systems
  • Knowledge of HIV/STI/MNH and RH in Kenya
  • Knowledge of the community strategy
