Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) Employment Opportunities

Our client, Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC), is a leading financial institution in agri-business that assists in the development of agriculture and agricultural industries by making loans available to individuals and/or groups.

Its mission is ‘To be the financial institution of choice for agricultural development in Kenya’ and its vision is ‘To provide customer focused financial services for the development of the agricultural sector in Kenya’

In order to achieve its goals, the institution seeks to recruit dynamic and experienced individuals to the following leadership positions:

1. Managing Director
Ref: AFC/MD/09

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director will be the chief executive of the organisation and responsible for ensuring that AFC achieves its vision.

Key responsibilities will be to:
  • Provide advice to the board on all matters related to agricultural financing;
  • Ensure the development and implementation of appropriate strategies and policies that will ensure that AFC fulfils its mandate;
  • Provide guidance in the preparation and implementation of business plans and budgets;
  • Foster a conducive corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good governance, as well as attracting, retaining and motivating employees;
  • To act as the company’s principal spokesperson; and to
  • Promote effective communication between the Board and all levels of management to ensure sustainable growth.
Qualifications:
  • A person of character and integrity with a passion for agricultural development;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Management Economics, Agriculture or Agricultural Economics, (an MBA will be an added advantage);
  • A professional qualification in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Insurance or related field;
  • A team leader with 15 years of proven experience in Banking, Finance or related a field, including at least 10 years management experience at a senior level;
  • Experience in networking and resource mobilization;
  • Demonstrated experience in change management with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Experience in agri-business will be an added advantage;
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications; and
  • The ideal candidate should be between 35 – 50 years.
The right candidate for this position must have the ability to think strategically and design long term plans in addition to being a visionary leader.

Applicants must have proven intellectual leadership in managing people and financial resources and must have established a reputation for outstanding performance.

2. General Manager, Business Development
Ref: AFC/GMBD/09

Reporting to the Managing Director, the General Manager Business Development will be responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate strategies that will enable AFC achieve its aggressive growth targets.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Providing advise on all areas of business development which will lead to the achievement of growth targets;
  • Developing and implementing new strategies for business development:
  • Identifying new business opportunities;
  • Overseeing the sales and marketing activities of the institution; and
  • Networking and sourcing for funds.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Business related field, (an MBA will be an added advantage);
  • A professional qualification in Marketing or a related field;
  • 8 years experience in marketing of financial services, with at least 4 years in a senior management position;
  • Experience in networking and sourcing for funds;
  • Team player with strong leadership and management skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications and other ICT packages; and
  • The ideal candidate should be between 35 – 45 years
Candidates for this position must have demonstrated experience in developing new and maintaining existing business relationships as well as selling and closing sales of financial related services. Knowledge of agri-business will be an added advantage.

3. General Manager, Human Resource
Ref: AFC/GMHR/09

Reporting to the Managing Director, the General Manager, Human Resources will be responsible for developing and implementing appropriate Human Resource (HR) strategies that will ensure that AFC attracts and retains a professional team of motivated employees.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Aligning the HR strategies to the overall strategy of the Corporation;
  • Ensuring the Corporation develops policies for attracting, retaining and developing staff;
  • Developing and reviewing the HR policies and procedures;
  • Overseeing the change management process;
  • Ensuring appropriate HR training and development programs are developed and implemented; and
  • Putting in place an appropriate Performance Management System and managing Performance Contracts.
The right candidate for this position will have demonstrated experience in change management, interpret and inculcate labour laws within the institution, manage the recruitment process and the development of employees as well as analyse training needs to design development and retention programs.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Social Sciences or related qualification, (an MBA will be an added advantage);
  • A professional qualification HR Management;
  • 8 years experience in a HR advisory role, with at least 4 years as a HR leader in a dynamic environment;
  • Demonstrated leadership, coordination and managerial capabilities;
  • Excellent interaction and presentation skills;
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications and other ICT packages; and
  • The ideal candidate should be between 35 – 45 years.
The right candidate for this position will have demonstrated experience in change management, developing and implementing modern and effective performance management systems.
