USAID Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program (MCHIP) Employment Opportunities

The Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program (MCHIP), is USAID’s flagship award for maternal, newborn and child health. MCHIP aims to accelerate the reduction of maternal, newborn and child mortality in Kenya through the introduction, development and scale-up of high-impact interventions.

MCHIP is implemented by Jhpiego and its partners, including Save the Children, John Snow, Inc., Johns Hopkins University/Institute for International Programs, Macro International, Inc., Program for Appropriate Technology in Health, Broad Branch Associates, and Population Services International.

MCHIP is currently looking for senior experienced individuals with excellent technical skills, who are team players, dedicated, hard working, highly motivated and able to work in a high pressure environment requiring multi-tasking abilities.

Monitoring & Evaluation Advisor

The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Advisor will be seconded to the Department of Family Health (DFH) by the MCHIP Kenya program, to support the four divisions of the department in the completion of the M&E framework and build the capacity for the implementation of an effective M&E / HMIS system.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with the Division Directors and staff in the provinces to create, test, and refine relevant M&E frameworks for effective collection, storage and use of service provision data
  • Work with program officers in producing and maintaining up-to-date PMP tables
  • Assist in gathering technical updates on program planning, monitoring, evaluation and operations research
  • Facilitate on-the-job M&E training for capacity development of colleagues in the DFH
  • Develop systems for archiving M&E guidelines, tools, data files, analysis files, reports and presentations for each major activity undertaken
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and/or annual reports.
Qualifications
  • A bachelors degree in the mathematics, health or related field - an advanced degree will be an added advantage
  • Five years of work experience in leading M&E of health projects and/or HMIS work in Kenya. Experience handling maternal and child health data will be an added advantage
  • Experience working with MOH systems and personnel and in USAID-funded projects an asset
  • Excellent analytical, oral and report- writing skills
  • Computer literacy, particularly in the use of MS Word, PowerPoint. MS Access and SPSS
  • Basic understanding of Child health, Nutrition and Reproductive Health related issues.
Immunization Technical Advisor

The Immunization Technical Advisor will serve as part of the MCHIP-Kenya technical team and will manage the MCHIP immunization activities in Kenya.

She/he will work with the Ministry of Public Health’s Division of Vaccines and Immunization (DVI) to improve national immunization coverage.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to strategic planning, implementation and monitoring of immunization activities of the DVI and its partners to improve national immunization coverage
  • Develop tools and strategies to improve the availability of and demand for immunization services and to scale-up proven strategies to improve routine immunization
  • Contribute in the preparation and implementation of project’s work plans, budgets and technical quarterly and annual reports to the project and its donors
  • Compile and analyze data for performance monitoring and evaluation of the project and utilize data to take corrective actions
  • Maintain close contact with MCHIP/Kenya team and MCHIP headquarters
  • Participate in trainings, meetings and workshops that support immunization strengthening in Kenya
  • Coordinate with partners (USAID & APHIAs) on immunization activities conducted in the provinces and selected districts
  • Identifying and providing immunization technical assistance to staff responsible for the immunization program in PHMTs and DHMTs
  • Strengthening supportive supervision by forming a working team at the provincial level and with select DHMTs
  • Assist in provincial review meetings, technical support field visits and ensure that recommendations are implemented
  • Support select districts to improve integrated outreach and the use and systematic review of the permanent registers for defaulter tracing and tracking of pregnant women and children due for immunization
  • Serve as a technical advisor to the immunization interagency coordinating committee.
Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Public Health (a degree or diploma in clinical medicine is preferred)
  • At least five years of work experience at a management position in the field of public health specifically maternal and child health or with EPI
  • Experience in the management of immunization programs and child health programs at provincial and/or district level
  • Experience in working with MOPH systems and personnel
  • Experience in working in a multi-agency/organizational environment
  • Computer literacy, particularly in the use of MS Word, PowerPoint.
