Program description: This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It involves conducting research and program support for activities related to malaria, HIV and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the HDSS Branch has the following vacancy in the Inpatient/ Outpatient Surveillance.


POSITION: CLINICAL OFFICERS (1 positions) MR 7(Job Group K)

LOCATION: Siaya District (Karemo Division).

      ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery.
  • Minimum experience of 1 year of direct patient contact
  • Must live near Clinics and hospitals in Siaya District.

DESIRED QUALITIES

  • Direct clinical care to infants an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work well with the public, in a team and able to collaborate well with counterparts
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili. Knowledge of DhoLuo an added advantage

Position description: Clinical Officers will report to the IPD/ OPD Coordinator and will carry out clinical duties and data collection for the surveillance. The study will include sites at health facilities in Siaya District including Siaya District Hospital.


Specific Duties and responsibilities:

  • To see patients and perform physical exams in the outpatient/inpatient department.
  • To attend to inpatients in hospital and do daily ward rounds.
  • To accurately and completely fill out all study forms.
  • Keep records and check source documents for completeness and accuracy each day.
  • Assist in performing Verbal autopsies on all cases of mortality occurring at home.
  • Must be flexible to work within the existing structures.
  • Offer technical support, coordinate, supervise and perform day to day clinical activities. within health facilities in the district.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

Terms of Employment:

A six (6) one year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service and a Probation period for the first 3 months.

Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on education levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.
