The Institute seeks to appoint a programme head for its African Conflict Analysis Program to be based in the Nairobi Office. S/he will serve as part of the senior management of the ISS and report to the Nairobi Office Director.
As programme head, the successful candidate will direct and co-ordinate all program activities according to donor/stakeholder needs' and organisational objectives within the programme.

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to
- building relationships with external bodies and organisations to establish a donor base for research funding,
- compiling project proposals,
- establish effective communication and feedback procedures with donors and external stakeholders,
- provide specialist advice to the research team and stakeholders on research related matters,
- present research findings to various forums and stakeholders,
- Continuously identify new and maintain relationships with existing information providers,
- review analysis and writing of colleagues with the aim of mentoring the program research team.
The programme head will also be responsible for editing of publications and quality control over all outputs; staff management and financial oversight.

- A minimum of a Master's Degree (preferably PhD) in conflict and peace studies, political science, international Relations, International Law, Strategic Studies or a related social science.
- At least ten (10) years operational and research experience dealing with conflict/post conflict issues, policy articulation and implementation
- At least five years management experience.
- Must have in depth understanding of Africa political dynamics and issues related to human security.
- Track record in fund-raising and donor liaison. Publishing experience is mandatory
- Ability to work in cooperation with governments and civil society. A strong team leader with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate and write effectively in English and other African Union languages.
