Program description: This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research and program evaluation in malaria, HIV and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the program is seeking motivated, pro-active individuals to fill the following vacancies in the GAP HIV Care and Treatment program based in Kisumu
Position : DATA MANAGER (Data Analyst I) MR 9-JOB GROUP M
Location : KEMRI/CDC field station, Kisumu
Reporting to: Care and Treatment Technical Advisor
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT
- Must possess a Bachelors degree in computer science, applied mathematics or statistics, and information technology from a recognized university Minimum of 2 years data management experience required.
- DESIRABLE QUALITIES
- Ability to design/develop computer databases, demonstrated experience with SAS/SPSS/STATA programming for data manipulation/report writing, production, processing, and documentation skills
- Experience cleaning data and performing quality assurance procedures
- Ability to identify and resolve potential or current data problems
- Be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff in all cadres
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate and work as a team
- Good judgment in problem solving, awareness of own limitations, and strong internal motivation essential
- Be able to prioritize tasks and meet set deadlines.
- Field experience with data collection preferred
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the program/research study’s design, goals, and implementation so that s/he can participate fully in the successful execution of the study
- Undertake a wide range of data processing including production of reports
- Provide feed back to the research coordinator regarding the quality assurance of data, detected deficiencies and corrective action needed in the databases
- Deal with routine problems arising in the course of data handling
- Perform data cleaning
- Support in data analysis
- Work well with members of the program/research teams including clinicians, field workers, field supervisor, statistician, research coordinator and Ministry of Health staff at health care facilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Terms of Employment: A six (6) 1 year, renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts
