VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT KEMRI/CDC RESEARCH AND PUBLIC HEALTH COLLABORATION

Program description: This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is research and program support for activities related to malaria, HIV and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the program has the following vacancy at the KEMRI clinic.

      POSITION : Clinical Officer MR7 (Job Group K)

LOCATION : KEMRI CLINIC (CENTER FOR GLOBAL HEALTH RESEARCH) KISUMU

Reporting To: The Center Director

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery.
  • Must be registered with the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya.
  • 1 year relevant work experience in the management of HIV patients, both provision of ART and management of opportunistic infections in a busy clinic.
  • Must have a good understanding of HIV management, including provision of ART, Care and management of opportunistic infections.
  • Must be conversant with Kenya MoH guidelines on ART and management of Opportunistic infections.
  • Must be well conversant and able to perform other clinical duties.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to coordinate activities, make decisions, lead and supervise a team.
  • Experience with ART and pharmacy reporting tools.
  • Excellent written/oral communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work well in a team, and be able to collaborate well with counterparts.
  • Fluency in both English and Swahili, written and spoken.

JOB SUMMARY: The Clinical Officer will support provision of clinical services including HIV, TB care and treatment services to patients and other clinical duties in KEMRI clinic.

    Duties and responsibilities:

  • With guidance from the Centre Director, and in liaison with KEMRI/CDC GAP care and Treatment clinical lead, provide quality HIV care and treatment clinical services at KEMRI clinic.
  • Provide day to day clinical services within KEMRI clinic.
  • Provide leadership to the team at KEMRI clinic.
  • Provide status reports to the Centre Director and KEMRI/CDC GAP care and Treatment clinical lead.
  • Collaborate well with other service providers e.g. MoH, private hospitals
  • Maintain high standards of patients’ confidentiality and medical ethics.
  • Conduct clinical procedures and referral of patients appropriately and as required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Centre Director.

Terms of Employment: Contract is 1 year renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service. Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency.
