Role

The livestock Officer will report to the Team Leader.
Main Responsibilities
- Jointly develop with other team members project activity plans i.e. quarterly and monthly.
- Establish, promote & strengthen community based animal health structure in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate with the team leader to ensure monitoring of the CAHWs result areas.
- Conduct livestock project needs assessments, and baseline surveys on livestock based livelihoods.
- Carry out animal health training for all cadres of animal health workers as defined in the project documents, and report accordingly.
- Develop and submit to the team leader training reports, activity reports, and monthly reports effectively.
- Provide advice to CAHWs and motivate them to stock adequate veterinary inputs.
- Assist the animal health workers to develop work plans.
- Provide regular refresher trainings to CAHWs in the project target area.
- Responsible and accountable for all project resources in the field.
- Ensuring proper control of project inputs and resources.
- Ensure prudent use and reporting of field advance finances.
- Establish and maintain good rapport with community, local authorities & other agencies on the ground.
- Responsible to the beneficiaries to have their views incorporated in all plans and activities.
- Ensure the CAHW monitoring structure and tools are developed and used in monitoring animal health workers and their associational activities.
- Provide assessment report and situation reports from field locations.
Essential or Minimum Requirements
Education
Education
- A University degree in veterinary medicine
- Higher diploma in animal health or relevant qualification
- Additional qualification in community development would be an added advantage
Knowledge and experience
- At least 4 years experience at senior level in the animal husbandry and livestock medicine in pastoral regions.
- Experience in participatory planning, monitoring and evaluation
- Experience in facilitation of livestock development activities
- Knowledge of Pastoral field schools will be desirable
- Knowledge of the guidelines on CAHW training and support.
- Knowledge of a local language would be desirable.
- Work experience in conflict or post-conflict areas
