TECHNICAL OFFICER (LIVESTOCK)
Scope of Duty: Reporting to the Regional Manager – Kitale and Head of Technical Department. The Technical Officer will be responsible for assisting in developing and implementing strategies and programs for livestock breeding & husbandry and ensuring that the livestock breeding herd is of high quality and standard. Qualifications and Attributes
Direct appointment to this position the incumbent must have the following qualifications and attributes.
- Age 25- 40 years
- Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine and a minimum of three years hands – on experience in livestock Management.
- In- depth understanding of the farm managements operations.
- Good analytical and statistical skills.
- Computer software applications Knowledge are necessary
- Good interpersonal and communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of this position will include but not limited to:-
- Supervising the regional dairy & beef herds and overseeing the general breeding programmes in consultation with the Head of Technical Division, Regional Manager and the relevant Livestock Managers.
- Monitor livestock births and ensure their registration as and when the births occur.
- Shall be involved in consultation with the Regional Manager, Livestock Managers and Head of Technical Division in the establishment of leys, fodder, silage and livestock sales.
- General supervision of the regional Veterinary Officers to ensure compliance with standard veterinary practices and livestock health care for the corporation.
- Responsible for ensuring effective and results- oriented implementations of approved livestock production programmes.
- Coordination of farm units programmes and monitoring economics and cost effectiveness of each farm unit as a business entity.
- Collecting and analyzing livestock performance data in each of the units and making appropriate recommendations on improvements.
- Participating in the preparation of regional budgets, monitoring expenditure and debt collection supervision.
VETERINARY INTERNS
Scope of duty: Reporting to the Regional Technical Officer – Livestock. The Veterinary Interns will be on a six (6) months hand’s on training on the general farm management specifically handling and developing livestock health programmes in liaison with other personnel in the Corporation’s Veterinary Department. Successful completion of the Internship shall see the Intern engaged as a Veterinary Officer by the Corporation.Job Specifications

Direct appointment to this position the holder shall have the following qualifications and attributes:-
- Age 25 – 30 years.
- Recent graduate of Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine from a recognized University.
- Good analytical and statistical skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willing to learn, Teachable.

Duties and responsibilities of the Veterinary Interns will include but not limited to:-
- Assist in ensuring that livestock medical and health requirements are met and administered as per the animal health standards.
- Treatments of animals, supervision of standards of hygiene at all times.
- Ensure that livestock drugs and vaccines procured for use are of acceptable standards.
- Supervising for procuring and effective usage of semen and ensuring successful high conceptional rate with minimal repetitions.
- Carrying out comprehensive analysis of individual livestock herd to determine aspects of effective animal husbandry practices including culling.
