Exporting companies are in constant need of engaging qualified designers to assist in the design and development of new products in order to keep up with constantly changing international market trends.
The Export Promotion Council of Kenya (EPC) in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID-Kenya) is rolling out a programme for Product Design and Development for the Handicrafts Sector in Kenya.
The main objective of the programme is to assist Kenyan companies dealing in commercial crafts and textile products (hand loomed items) and accessories, targeting the US market, to better understand the market; produce market-led products; and enhance export product design capacity and skills of local designers.
In this regard, the EPC /USAID Trade Development Programme is inviting qualified local product designers to apply for a 2-day training programme, which will be conducted by an international product design specialist. After the training, the local designers will be expected to coach Kenyan companies in development of new designs for the US market.
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Be fluent in English;
- Have professional and technical experience in working in the export sector;
- Have working experience in a business environment;
- Have good presentation skills;
- Have professional and technical skills in;
- Product design, development and test marketing in 2-dimension designs (textiles, Jewellery, basketry and other accessories).
- Product design, development and test marketing in 3-dimension designs (sculptures)
- At least 5 years of experience and a relevant academic qualification in product design (minimum degree level).
