National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) Job Vacancies

National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) invites applications from qualified and experienced candidates for the following vacant positions:

1. Corporate Communications Officer 1
Grade E7 (1 Post)

An officer at this level will be responsible to the Principal Corporate Communications officer for the implementation of communications programs to enhance the Authority's corporate image.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties will include
  • preparing news releases, press kits, supplements on NEMA programs and activities;
  • drafting appropriate responses to issues raised through the media and the website,
  • developing a database of human interest environmental stories, and articles for publishing in internal and external publications;
  • production of in-house publications, coordinating and monitoring the implementation of the Service Charter;
  • coordinating internal communication with all staff including field officers;
  • professional photography and video coverage of NEMA's internal and external functions;
  • development and maintenance of an electronic photo library, and photo gallery strategically displayed in notice boards and on the NEMA website;
  • prudently managing cameras and other electronic equipment, and drafting speeches as need arises.
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this position, a candidate must have;
  • a degree in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism;
  • served as a Corporate Communications Officer II, Grade E8 or in a comparable and relevant position for three (3) years
  • shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
2. Senior Marine Officer
Grade E6 (1 Post)

An officer at this level will be answerable to the Deputy Director, Coastal Marine and Fresh Waters.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties will include;
  • taking charge of Marine and Coastal Conservation Programmes,
  • assisting in monitoring the state of Coastal and Marine Resources on a regular basis and
  • finalization and implementation of Kenya's Integrated Coastal Zone Management Framework.
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment in this position, a candidate must have;
  • A Bachelor's and Masters degree in Marine Ecology, Marine Management or any other relevant field from a recognized institution,
  • Served as Marine/ wetlands officer 1 grade E7 or in a comparable and relevant position for three (3) years
  • Requisite management or research experience on coastal and marine resources.
  • Relevant working experience with donor funded projects will be an added advantage,
  • Computer literacy
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
3. Security/Administrative Officer (1 Post)

This position reports to Principal Admistrative Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties will be to ensure constant and uninterrupted power supply, water and telephone services, maintain security within and outside NEMA premises and also oversee the general maintenance of the Authority's installations.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: .
  • Served as a Administrative/Security Officer III (Grade E9) or served at the rank of senior sergeant or in a comparable and relevant position for a minimum period of three (3) years;
  • A Bachelors degree in any social science from a recognized university or Part III of the Certified Public Secretaries Examination or their recognized equivalent qualification from a recognized institution, and;
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
4. Environment Officers
Grade E8 (2 Posts)

An officer at this level may be deployed to work in a District, as a District Environment Officer (DEO), and will be responsible to Provincial Director of Environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities will be to supervise and coordinate all environmental
activities within a District in accordance with the Environmental Management and
Coordination Act (EMCA), 1999.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: -
  • A Bachelors degree in Environmentally related field
  • Served as an Environmental Assistant (Grade E9) or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service for at least three (3) years; and
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
