Vacancy-Finance Assistant


The Southern Sudan Interactive Radio Instruction (SSIRI) Project is part of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Department of Alternative Education Systems. SSIRI develops and broadcasts radio programs to improve education throughout Southern Sudan and the Three Areas. The major programs are The Learning Village for primary schools, Terbia English programs, and Professional Studies for Teacher. SSIRI is administered by EDC and funded by USAID.

EDC would like to recruit a South Sudanese national to fill the position of Finance Assistant based in Juba office.

The Finance Assistant will have responsibility for assisting SSIRI finances within Southern Sudan and the Three Areas. The Finance Assistant will be under the supervision of the Finance Officer –Juba. The specific duties are as follows:

Responsibilities

The Finance Assistant-Juba will assist with the following activities:

  • Preparation of all financial documentation and maintenance of files. Financial record keeping in compliance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and in accordance to applicable EDC policies and procedures.
  • Reconciliation of accounts,
  • Disbursement of cash payments to vendors and workshop participants
  • Review of expense reports submitted by field staff in Southern Sudan for accuracy and completeness. Will request additional information or backup materials as may be necessary.
  • Contacting (including travel) places of accommodations throughout Southern Sudan to assess accommodation facilities and prices.
  • Updating Cash Book and Petty Cash Balances and advising the Finance Officer on a daily basis.
  • Handle petty cash to meet needs in accordance with petty cash polices;
  • Assists with preparation of the month financial reports to SSIRI Nairobi;
  • Assist in reviewing vehicle & Motor Cycle Log books and telephone log books as well as preparing necessary reports.
  • Assist with preparing of cheques and act as a bank agent for withdrawal and deposit of project funds

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  1. Diploma in Accounting/Finance & Administration or equivalent).
  2. Minimum of 2-3 years relevant project-related Finance & administrative experience.
  3. Proficiency in the use of IT equipment and software including Excel
  4. Sudanese national.
  5. Work experience with Sudan based/Operating International NGOs and an awareness of USAID financial/administrative rules and regulations preferred.
  6. Well developed organizational skills.

Languages

  • Fluency and good drafting ability in English and Arabic.

Competencies

  • Initiative, adaptability, good interpersonal, ability to work effectively under pressure; good communication skills and both written and verbal.
