Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT) Job Vacancies

ACADEMIC POSITIONS

Kimathi University College of Technology wishes to fill academic positions in the
following departments:

(i) Electrical and Electronic Engineering
(ii) Mechanical Engineering,
(iii) Civil Engineering,
(iv) Mechatronics Engineering,
(v) Telecommunication and Information Engineering,
(vi) Computer Science and Information Technology,
(vii) Actuarial Science,
(viii) Commerce, and
(ix) Mathematics and Physical Sciences.

Applicants to engineering departments should be registered, or be in the process of being registered, as engineers with the Engineers Registration Board

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

PROFESSOR – KUCT/ACA/01

Applicant must have a PhD plus at least three years of teaching at University as Associate Professor. In addition, the candidate must have published six papers in refereed journals or at least three University level books in the applicant’s area of specialization since last appointment as Associate Professor.

The candidate must have supervised postgraduate students. He/she must have demonstrated good leadership ability and proven ability to attract research funding. In addition, he/she must be actively affiliated to an appropriate professional body. Further the candidate will be subjected to academic peer review.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR – KUCT/ACA/02

Applicant must have a PhD plus at least three years of teaching and research at University as a senior Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow. In addition, the candidate must have published five papers in refereed journals or at least two University level books in the applicant’s area of specialization since their last appointment as Senior Lecturer.

A candidate must have supervised post graduate students. He/she should have demonstrated good leadership ability and proven ability to attract research funding. The candidate will be subjected to academic peer review.

SENIOR LECTURER – KUCT/ACA/03

Applicant must have a PhD plus at least three years of teaching/research at University as a lecturer/research fellow. In addition, the candidate must have published at least three papers in refereed journals or one University level book since her/his last appointment. Applicant must demonstrate ability to supervise postgraduate students.

A successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students, to initiative and implement research and extension projects.

LECTURER – KUCT/ACA/04

An applicant must have either a PhD in the relevant field or a Masters degree in addition to a bachelor degree plus two years of University teaching or research experience and at least three papers in a refereed journal. Successful candidate will be expected to teach, conduct research and supervise undergraduate students.

ASSISTANT LECTURER – KUCT/ACA/05

Must have a Masters degree in addition to a Bachelor degree plus two years of
University teaching or research experience. Successful candidate will be expected to
teach, conduct research and supervise undergraduate students.

TEACHING ASSISTANTS/GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTS -KUCT/ACA/06

Applicant should be holders of a first class honours or second class honours (upper
division) degree in Civil, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronic,
Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Actuarial science or other equivalent
courses from a reputable University.

Those having at least one year experience in the industry will have an added advantage. Successful candidates will be deployed in the department matching their training to assist in research, design of experiments and some administrative duties. A successful candidate is also expected to immediately enroll in an appropriate Masters degree course.

TECHNICAL GRADES: ENGINEERING DEPARTMENTS

KUCT will like to fill the technical grades given below in the following departments:

(i) Electrical and Electronic Engineering

SENIOR TECHNICIAN GRADE 10 - KUCT/TEC/01

An applicant should be a holder of a Bachelor degree in Engineering. In addition, the applicants should have at least three (3) years of relevant work experience as a technician in a University or equivalent research institution. Knowledge of computer applications including CAD will be an added advantage.

The successful candidate will be involved in planning, preparing and implementing practical/laboratory classes and research projects for both undergraduate students under guidance of academic members of staff in their respective department. Registration by a recognized professional engineering body as a technician engineer will be an added advantage.

TECHNICIAN GRADE 8 - KUCT/TEC/02

An applicant should be a holder of Higher Diploma (or its equivalent) from a recognized post-secondary institution. In addition, the applicants should have at least two (2) years of relevant work experience as an assistant technician or technician in a University or equivalent research institution. Knowledge of computer applications including CAD will be an added advantage. The successful candidate will be involved in planning, preparing and implementing practical/laboratory exercises for undergraduate and diploma students.

TECHNICIAN GRADE 5/6 - KUCT/TEC/03

An applicant must possess a good KCSE/KCE/EACE academic certificate, be a holder of an ordinary diploma in engineering, and have three years experience in research/academic institution. A candidates should also have working knowledge of ICT applications, including CAD, in engineering. Successful candidate should be able to operate and maintain laboratory equipment and assist in student laboratory and research work.

TECHNICAL GRADES: COMPUTER AND IT DEPARTMENTS

SENIOR TECHNICIAN GRADE 10 - KUCT/TEC/04

An applicant should be a holder of a Bachelor degree in Information Technology or Computer Science. In addition, the applicant should have at least three (3) years of relevant work experience as a technician in a University or equivalent research institution. Applicant must have good working knowledge in and experience in hardware, networking software, Linux, managing servers, knowledge in wireless communication devices, and major PC applications. CISCO certification will be an added advantage.

ENGINEERING WORKSHOPS

An applicant should be a holder of a good degree in Mechanical Engineering, be a registered
engineer and have at least 4 years experience in a busy production engineering workshop.
They must have demonstrable design experience incorporating use of ICT design tools. A
master degree will be an added advantage. Responsibilities of successful candidates will
include design, managing operations of a design office, setting up of laboratory and research
equipment and facilities, and developing and managing the engineering workshops.

ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER GRADE 12 KUCT/WHP/2

Applicant should be a holder of a good degree in Mechanical Engineering, be a registered
engineer and have at least 4 years experience in a busy production engineering workshop.

LIBRARY

SENIOR LIBRARIAN GRADE 13 KUCT/LIB/1

An applicant must possess M.A/M. Sc. in Library/Information Science and 5 years experience
in a University/research library in grade 12 or equivalent or be a holder of PhD in Library/
Information Science. In both cases he/she must have experience in ICT application in
academic/research library environment. They must also have experience in management of
library operations.

Successful candidate will undertake a variety of library work including spearheading
development of loan systems, managing library staff, building the stock and arranging for
access to e-resources.

LIBRARY ATTENDANT GRADE 5/6 KUCT/LIB/2

A candidate must have a good KCSE certificate, hold a Diploma in Information Science and
have at least 2 years working experience in a busy organization. Successful candidate will be
assigned operational duties in the library.

PROCUREMENT DEPARTMENT

ASSISTANT PROCUREMENT OFFICER – GRADE 8 - KUCT/PSM/1

A candidate must have either (i) a Bachelor degree in Purchasing and Supplies Management or
(ii) a Bachelor degree in Commerce or Economics plus a Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies
management, or (iii) other equivalent qualifications. In addition, a candidate must have at
least 3 years experience in procurement.

Duties of successful candidate will include the following: Receive requisition for users for purchase of goods and services and confirm correct specification and deliveries requested; obtain quotation or tenders from suppliers, evaluate them and seek approvals; place orders or arrange for confronts, monitor deliveries and ensure that original terms have been adhered to.

PROCUREMENT ASSISTANTS II/STORES ASSISTANTS II GRADE 7 -KUCT/PSM/2

An applicants should be a holder of a good KCE/KCSE/EACE certificate and also have a
Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies Management from a University or should have completed
the final stage of a Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies Management from Government Training Institute or the final stage of CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing Supplies) and also have a minimum of three years experience in a busy procurement/supplies/stores department.

SENIOR STORE CLERKS GRADE 5 - KUCT/PSM/3

An applicant should be a holder of a good KCE/KCSE/EACE certificate, and an Advanced
Certificate in Purchasing and Supplies Management from a recognized institution and have at
least 3 years experience in a busy store.

DEAN OF STUDENTS OFFICE

STUDENTS COUNSELLOR GRADE 12 - KUCT/DSO/1

A candidate should be a holder of a Masters degree in counseling or Education Psychology from
a recognized university with at least four (4) years work experience in counseling students in a
University or comparable Institution. Successful candidates will be responsible for counseling
students and staff with social, psychological or health related problems.

SPORTS AND GAMES ASSISTANT OFFICER GRADE 8 - KUCT/DSO/2

An applicants should possess a degree in Physical Education/Sport Science/Leisure and
Recreation Management from a recognized University. The applicant need to posses coaching
certificates in some of the in athletics and the following sports: Volleyball, basketball, rugby,
hand-ball, foot-ball, lawn tennis and netball. The applicant should be prepared to work during
odd hours, weekends and public holidays and away from the University College. Successful
candidate will be expected to coach/train students and staff, organize and manage sports
programmes.

FINANCE

DEPUTY FINANCE OFFICER GRADE 14 - KUCT/FIN/1

An applicant must be a person with proven qualifications, ability and experience in financial
management and administration and should be in possession of an MBA plus CPA (K) and at
least five (5) years in grade 13 or equivalent. Those with B.Com plus CPA (K) and have at least
five (5) years experience at a senior management level will also be considered. An applicant
should also be a member of a recognized professional accounting body.

The Deputy Finance Officer will be responsible to University College on matters related
to sound accounting and financial control systems. Responsibilities will include managing
College’s financial resources and personnel in the Finance department and will be expected
to develop and monitor University policies related to internal control, financial and accounting
requirements, sponsored projects, financial administration, indirect costs, administrative system use and human resources.

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT GRADE 13 - KUCT/FIN/2

A candidate must have either (i) a Masters degree in accounting and be CPA (K) or (ii) an
MBA plus CPA (K) and in both cases have at least five years working experience in Grade 12.
Successful candidate will be in charge of financial accounting under the direction of Deputy
Finance officer.

ASSISTANT INTERNAL AUDITOR GRADE 8 - KUCT/FIN/3

A candidate must have a Bachelors degree in Commerce (Accounting option), be a Certified
Public Accountant in Kenya (CPA(K)), have at least 3 years experience in a similar position, and
be familiar with Kenya Government’s procurement and Audit policies and practice.

Successful candidate will be undertake a variety of auditing work including (i) carrying out
regular audits to ensure compliance with approved management policies, procedures and
control system, (ii) reviewing and recommending sound internal control systems, (iii) carrying
out special audit assignments and investigations, (iv) developing and reviewing of audit
manuals, (v) preparation of audit plans.

ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT I & II GRADE (7/8) KUCT/FIN/4

A candidate must have a Bachelors degree in Commerce (Accounting option), be a Certified
Public Accountant in Kenya (CPA(K)), have at least five (5) years experience in a similar position, and be familiar with Kenya Government’s procurement and Audit policies and practice.

ACCOUNT ASSISTANT II GRADE 6 - KUCT/FIN/5

An applicant should be a holder of a good KCE/KCSE/EACE certificate and should have CPA
part 2 Section 4, and have at least five (5) years experience at the level of Grade 5.

ASSISTANT ACCOUNTING I GRADE 5 -KUCT/FIN/6

An applicant should be a holder of a good KCE/KCSE/EACE certificate and should have CPA
part 2 Section 3, and have at least five (5) years experience at the level of grade 4.

CATERING

SENIOR CATERESS GRADE 10 KUCT/CAT/6

Applicants should be holders of a degree in hotel management, candidates will be
required to have at least five (5) years experience at level of grade 8.

ASSISTANT TRANSPORT OFFICER GRADE 6/7 KUCT/TRP/1

A candidate should be a holder of diploma in Transport Management or Mechanical
engineering or fleet management with at least five years experience in a University
or comparable organization. Duties of successful candidate will include overseeing
safe, efficient, and economical operation of college vehicles, transport scheduling,
maintaining records, implementing maintenance programmes, and ensuring adherence
to legal and statutory obligations.

HOSPITAL

MEDICAL OFFICER GRADE 12 - KUCT/HSP/1

A candidate should be a holder of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
degree from a recognized University with at least two (2) years of good post-internship
experience in a busy hospital and be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners
and Dentists Board. Successful candidate will be responsible for student and staff
medical facilities and management of medical schemes including liaising with other
medical institutions. They will also advise the University on medical matters.

PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGIST GRADE 9 - KUCT/HSP/2

An applicant must possess KCSE academic certificate or equivalent and a diploma in
Pharmaceutical Technology from Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) or equivalent
and have at least five (5) years working experience as a Pharmaceutical Technologist
in a busy Institution.

MEDICAL RECORDS TECHNICIAN GRADE 7 - KUCT/HSP/3

An applicant must possess KCSE academic certificate or equivalent and a Diploma
in Medical Records Technician Certificate from Kenya Medical Training College or
equivalent and at least five (5) years working experience in Grade 6.

ADMINISTRATION

DEPUTY REGISTRAR GRADE 14 - KUCT/ADM/1

An applicant should have a Masters Degree from a recognized University in
Management related disciplines and should have worked competently for a minimum of
five (5) years at the level of Senior Assistant Registrar or equivalent position in a large
educational institution.

The ideal candidates should be knowledgeable in the general administrative and
management procedures of Universities or other educational institutions, be a person
of high integrity and an effective team player, and have knowledge of modern leadership
in their respective sections. Proficiency in information technology is mandatory.

SENIOR ASSISTANT REGISTRAR (HUMAN RESOURCE OFFICER) GRADE 13
-KUCT/ADM/2

A candidate must be a holder of a Masters degree plus a Bachelors degree from
a recognized University with a strong bias in human resource management with at
least six years relevant experience, in a University or comparable organization. A law
qualification will be an added advantage. Successful candidate will be responsible
for general administration of staff affairs including staff recruitment, development, and
training and other personnel duties.

SENIOR ASSISTANT REGISTRAR GRADE 13 KUCT/ADM/3

Applicants should be holders of a Masters degree from a recognized University in
Management or related discipline, with a minimum of five (5) years experience at
the level of Assistant Registrar or equivalent position in a large educational. The
ideal candidates should have thorough knowledge of the administrative procedures
of universities. They must demonstrate effective communication skills and ability to
supervise staff in the section/department. Proficiency in Information Technology is
mandatory.

ASSISTANT REGISTRAR GRADE 12 KUCT/ADM/4

Applicants should be holders of a Master Degree from a recognized university in
Management or related disciplines, with at least three (3) years working experience
gained in the University or large educational Institution. Or a Bachelor Degree and a
minimum of five (5) years work experience at the level of Grade 10/11 or equivalent.

SENIOR ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT GRADE 9/10 - KUCT/ADM/5

Applicants should be holders of a Bachelor Degree from a recognized University and at
least five (5) years relevant working experience in University administration or a large
educational institution at the level of Administrative Assistant.

Or

Be a holder of Bachelor degree from a recognized University and or be Certified Public
Secretary (CPS (K) with a minimum of three (3) years post qualification experience.

Or

Be a holder of a Master Degree in Management or related disciplines, with at least one
year post qualification experience.

Applicants should have good communication skills and be able to carry out instructions
with minimum supervision. They should also be persons of unquestionable integrity.
Proficiency in IT is mandatory.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT GRADE 8 - KUCT/ADM/6

Applicants should have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics or Business
Administration or equivalent from recognized University. The applicants must have
worked for at least three (3) years in a large organization preferably in Institution of
Higher learning. Knowledge of computer systems, computer applications and project
management will be an added advantage.

TERMS OF SERVICE
Appointments will be offered on Permanent and Pensionable Terms subject to
successful completion of probation. Appointments on contract terms are also possible.
Benefits include: A contributory pension scheme or payment of gratuity for those on
