Emergency Officer, NOB (Temporary Fixed Term Appointment): UNICEF Kenya Office

Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates who are Kenyan Nationals to fill in the above Temporary Fixed Term Appointment in the Emergency & Field Operations Section of UNICEF Kenya for a duration of one year.

Purpose of the Post: Under the direct supervision of Chief of Emergency & Field Operations, provide assistance in coordination and management of activities related to emergency preparedness and response at the national and sub-national levels.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist UNICEF Kenya Country Office and Field Offices in the development and monitoring of Emergency Preparedness and Response Plans including follow up with sections to ensure sectoral planning is completed in a timely manner and work with supply to establish reasonable levels of pre-positioning in keeping with level of risk and resources available.

2. Collate demographic information to form statistical baseline for emergency prone districts.

3. Assist in collecting information and drafting monthly sitrep on emergency preparedness and response activities.

4. Contribute raising funds for emergency programmes by developing and reviewing proposals for emergency funding.

5. Review existing emergency early warning sources in Kenya and identify key sources most useful to UNICEF. Establish a system for ongoing monitoring and dissemination of critical information to support decision making.

6. Attend humanitarian coordination meetings as appropriate and ensure effective dissemination of critical information within the Office.

7. Support the development of tools and methodologies to support vulnerability assessment and preparedness planning.

8. Required Qualifications: University Degree in Related Social Sciences, Public Administration, Economics, Communication or in any other relevant field.

Experience: 5-6 years progressive experience at national level in programme planning, management, monitoring and evaluation in related field. Emergency Response Related Experience and Fund Raising would be an asset.

Language: Fluency in English and Kiswahili.

Competencies: Communication, analytical and training skills, Good Knowledge of computer Management and application, Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, Ability to work at sub-nationals and community levels especially in Arid and Semi Arid Land (ASAL) areas and Ability to work as a team under pressure.
