The Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) is a State Corporation mandated to undertake research and development in forestry and disseminate research findings. The Institute is looking for suitable candidates to fill the following positions:
1. Assistant Research Officer - 4 Posts
Forest Ecology (1),
Silviculture (1),
Wood Chemistry (1) and
Forest Resource Assessment (1)
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties include: project proposal writing, experimental design and layout, data collection and analysis and scientific report writing.
Qualifications
The Applicants should be holders of a Master of Science degree in forestry or related sciences from a recognized university. The applicants should have majored in one of the following disciplines: Forest Ecology, Silviculture, Wood Chemistry and Forest Resource Assessment. The applicants should be able to write scientific reports, seminars and conferences. The applicants should also be computer literate and should be below 35 years of age.
2. Research Officer II (Hydrology) - 1 Post
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties include: planning, initiating and implementing research projects, guiding less experienced researchers, participating in multidisciplinary research projects, communicating scientific information through reports and technical publications.
Qualifications
The applicants should be holders of a Master of Science degree from a recognized University. The applicants should have majored in Hydrology. The applicant should be able to write scientific reports/papers for publication, seminars and conferences. The applicant should be computer literate and be below 35 years of age.
3. Supplies Assistant - 2 Posts
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties include: processing of material requisitions, preparation and execution of Local Purchase Orders; follow up on deliveries, ensuring security and safe custody of stores, storekeeping and stock control.
Qualifications
Applicants should have KCSE mean grade 'C' and above. They should have a Diploma in Supplies Management or its equivalent from a recognized institution. They should have worked for at least three (3) years in a busy supplies office. They should be below 35 years and be computer literate. Knowledge in ACCPAC software will be an added advantage.
4. Medical Laboratory Technician - 1 Post
Duties Responsibilities:
Duties include: investigations and diagnosing samples, procurement, storage of chemical reagents, and equipment in liaison with Supplies Division.
Qualifications
Applicants should have at least KCSE Div.ll or KCSE C+. They should have a certificate in Medical Laboratory Technician from a recognized institution. Be registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Board. Have experience in working in a busy medical laboratory in National/Provincial/District/Mission/Private hospital or government health centre for at least 3 years. Have skills in diagnostic counseling and testing for HIV infection Computer literacy will be an added advantage.
5. Network Administrator - 1 Post
Duties and Responsibilities
- Co-ordination and operation of Local Area Network and Wide Area network (LAN/WAN) and personnel, providing technical support for network equipment.
- Monitor band width usage, analyze traffic patterns and volumes of plan for any implication on network use.
- Monitor and analyze intrusion detection and ensure security standards are upheld.
- Manage the physical network infrastructure including wired and wireless LAN to ensure access to the network including active devices.
- Provide regular feedback on network performance for administrative purpose. Train users on application of new technology.
- Provide on site coordination and support to contractors.
- Carry out basic electrical installation and fixing loose cables
Applicants should have a Diploma in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field. Have Microsoft Certification (MCSE; CISCO Certification (CCNA)/A+/N+, thorough knowledge of LAN and WAN technologies such as VSAT, VPN, Fiber etc. Adept in Unix/Linux operating systems. At least three(3) years experience in a large network. The applicants should be below 35 years of age.
6. Systems Analyst - 1 Post
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties include: writing code and designing interfaces for database access, modifications and systems analysis and design, initiate new development efforts during implementation of software, preparation of manuals and software documentations for future reference and maintenance needs. Participate in project teams and ensure operating requirements and procedures are adhered to.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a first degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field from a recognized university. Candidates must prove knowledge of VB, PHP, ASP, JavaScript, and CSS programming languages. Should be able to set up US and Xampp web servers.
Candidates should have working knowledge of both Windows and Linux operating environment, relational database systems (Oracle, MySQL & MS Office). Candidates should have good skills in graphic design of websites. A minimum of 3 years work experience in application development. Holders of Higher National Diploma with 5 years experience can also apply. The applicants should be below 35 years of age.
7. Administrative Assistant - 2 Posts
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties include: handling complex clerical tasks, compliment control, maintenance of efficient filing systems, registry administration, coordination and supervision of clerical and support staff.
Qualifications
Applicants should have at least KCSE mean grade 'C' or its accepted equivalent. They should have CPS Part I or a Diploma in Business Management from a recognized institution. Applicants should have worked for at least three(3) years in a busy administrative office. Applicants should also be computer literate and be below 35 years of age
