Youth Governance Coordinator (4 posts)

Plan is an international humanitarian child centred community development organization, without religious, political or government affiliation. Plan Kenya started its operations in Kenya in 1982 and is committed to improving the lives of poor children, their families and communities using Rights Based Approaches to development.

Plan Kenya is looking for four young, dynamic professionals to coordinate a Youth and Governance Project in Tharaka, Machakos, Kisumu and Bondo. The three year project (January 2009 to December 2011) is co-funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Finland and Plan Kenya.

Key responsibilities
  • Facilitate the development of competent youth leaders and organizations or movements, as part of civil society
  • Provide the youth with opportunities to network with each other and other stakeholders
  • Facilitate youth to learn new ways of engaging with the devolved structures of governance while influencing policies, decision-making processes and access to services.
  • Facilitate linkages and partnerships that enable the youth to access resources and services
Qualifications, experience and skills
  • Bachelors degree in development studies or law or relevant social studies
  • Experience working with youth
  • Facilitation and training in areas of governance, youth engagement
  • Experience with government policies/procedures particularly relating to youth
  • Experience with process of engaging with devolved funds
  • Research, monitoring, evaluation skills and applications of participatory communication methodologies
  • Advocacy and Governance skills, with a bias on youth/children
  • Partnership management experience
  • Facilitation, training, and social mobilization skills
  • Project management .report writing and communication skills
  • Understanding of and working experience in any of the four regions will be an added advantage
  • Rights-based programming skills and experience
  • Resource mobilization skills
  • Peace and conflict resolution skills
