WWF- the global conservation organization, Eastern Africa Regional Programme Office (WWF-EARPO), is seeking to recruit a Project Technical Advisor to be based in Hoima, UgandaWWF- EARPO in collaboration with UNDP Country Office (Uganda) and the Government of Uganda have developed a full-sized GEF project: "The Conservation of Biodiversity in the Albertine Rift Forests of Uganda". The Project Management Unit (PMU) will be based in Uganda.
The Project Technical Advisor reporting to the Country Coordinator, Uganda is counter part to the National Project Manager(NPM) and will work closely with the National Forestry Authority (NFA) District Forest Services and other partners to direct and implement the Project.
S/he will assist the NPM to review and rationalize existing forest management practices and be the lead advisor on budgeting and staff training and development.
S/he will assist the Forest Sector Managers and Local Government staff to oversee the various planning activities associated with forest development and implement the actions identified through the planning process.
In conjunction with the central and local government stakeholders, the PTA will oversee activities relating to developing conservation and management strategy for the Albertine Rift Forest Resources; support Central Forest Reserves to provide sustainable biodiversity/livelihood benefits; provide advice on Forest connectivity within the Northern Corridor in the long-term; and community based forest conservation initiatives.
Prepares quarterly technical performance reports for WWF and UNDP, and the Steering Committee.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Master degree in one of the natural sciences is a prerequisite, with a bias on conservation biology and/or other qualification in program management field;
- A minimum of 8 years work experience in conservation and natural resource management.
- Previous work experience as a senior advisor for a multi-faceted donor funded project in the natural resources management field would be highly advantageous;
- Must be a strategic thinker who can analyze complex problems/ relationships and determine appropriate systems/institutional reforms to overcome these problems;
- Proven ability in capacity building/institutional development and must be able to work as a leader in a multi-cultural team;
- Must have track record of transparency, honesty and accountability.
- Possession of project planning and management, personnel management and contract development and monitoring skills;
- Excellent oral and written communication in English;
- ability to speak French desirable.
- Computer literate and possess a valid driving license.
