Senior Malaria Technical Advisor Job: Malaria Consortium

USAID Uganda STOP Malaria Project
Kampala, Uganda

The Senior Malaria Technical Advisor is responsible for providing technical leadership for the USAID Uganda STOP Malaria Project.

The STOP Malaria Project is a flagship project of USAID/PMI Uganda. The project aims to increase the coverage and use of key life-saving malaria interventions in support of the National Malaria Control Strategy in order to significantly reduce the morbidity and mortality from malaria in Uganda. The project will be implemented in 45 highly malarious districts over a five year period.

Specific duties include:
  • Lead support to the Ministry of Health in the reviewing, drafting and dissemination of malaria control policies, strategies and guidelines
  • Lead the design and planning of project activities including LLIN distributions, approaches to improving the uptake of intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy (IPTp) and training in and approaches to strengthening malaria diagnosis and treatment at all levels of the health system
  • Provide technical back-stopping in monitoring and evaluation of project activities
  • Ensure effective coordination and communication with stakeholders on technical issues
Salary is commensurate with experience.

Desired qualifications:
  • Highly motivated individual with a medical degree and a masters/PhD in a health-related discipline.
  • The candidate should have at least 10 years experience of working in communicable disease control and a thorough understanding of both preventive and curative aspects of malaria control.
  • Experience of working with district health systems is necessary and knowledge and experience of USAID projects is desirable.
  • Applicants from Uganda and/or within the region will be favoured.

Contract duration: Two years, with possibility of extension.
