Chief for Database Management Unit
Job Summary: Developing and managing databases for all epidemiological research, clinical trials, prospective cohorts, cross-sectional surveys and project interventions and evaluations.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Development and Management
- Design/develop/review/test new computer databases using a structured approach
- Develop work plans for data entry, quality control (includes automated data audit/checks) and data looting to assure integrity and security of data
- Organize, sort, link and group data for SAS/SPSS/STATA programming, data analysis and technical report writing
- Ensure easy and safe processing and storage of data collection forms for at studies
- Assist IT Unit to review existing computer hardware, software and procedures and make recommendations for improving the performance of database management unit as needed
- Participate in project management meetings
- At program/study design and/or launch, develop in-depth understanding of goal, methods, timeline to ensure successful execution by the data management team
- Establish smooth data flow, accurate and complete data entry, reporting, archiving, safety and security of data at multiple project sites
- Produce timely data management progress reports for internal and external users
- Periodic exploratory data analysis and statistical queries to identify and resolve potential or current data problems
- Represent ICRH at local, provincial and other consultative stakeholder meetings
- Develop/review strategies and standards and make recommendations for strengthening the ICRH data management system (personnel, equipment, tools, etc.)
- Supervise data management staff to ensure compliance to set standards and procedures as well as high quality data and professional ethics
- In consultation with the Director of Capacity Building and M&E, formulate, prepare and implement a formal training plan to enhance capacity for systems development and database operations
- Monitor performance of data management unit staff with periodic review of job descriptions and responsibilities
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management
- Proven expertise in design/development of computer databases using MS-ACCESS, EPl-DATA, SPSS and other database software
- Competency with statistical analysis using EPI-INFO, SPSS and any other statistical package
- Minimum 3 years data management experience related to clinical trials, epidemiological studies
- Understanding of public health/medical or social sciences field an asset
- At least 1 year of mid-level management experience an asset
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to lead and enhance capacity of data management team
- Willingness to team and adapt to new (IT) environments
