Chief Pilot – Ref: CHR/08/06-10

AMREF Flying Doctors and Emergency Services is seeking to fill the position of Chief Pilot – Ref: CHR/08/06-10

Stationed in Nairobi and reporting to the Aviation Director, the candidate will provide leadership and management of AMREF Aviation operations in all forms of air transport utilised by AMREF Flying Doctor Service, including safety, training and financial aspects. The work involves week long occasional field trips.

Specific areas of responsibility will include:

  • Flying AMREF missions;
  • Ensuring all aspects of the Aviation operation are operated to the highest safety standards;
  • Ensuring that AMREF operates and complies with all laws, rules and regulations of all authorities of each country in which it operates;
  • Maintaining flight currency and qualifications of all flight crew at the level of a Check Pilot
  • Ensuring that AMREF is covered by suitable insurance for all aspects of its airborne operations including aircraft that maybe leased or operated by other operators on AMREF’s behalf;
  • Ensuring that all safety and communication equipment and supplies are of the highest standard;
  • Responsible for all Aviation external and internal audits and the systems required thereof;
  • Supervising AMREF Aviation Operations staff;
  • Responsible for all aspects of crew and operations staff recurrent and refresher training;
  • Responsible for all aeronautical publications and their amendments;
  • Liaising between pilots and maintenance to ensure aircraft are maintained to the highest standards;
  • Monitoring all financial aspects of Aviation operations, including budgeting and budgetary control;
  • Maintaining an airfield index and data base of all airstrips that AMREF operate to; and
  • Coordinating Aviation with the Outreach Program and Emergency Service.

The ideal candidate will be a holder of KCE O-level Grade C+ or equivalent, a Kenya Airline Transport Pilots License with a minimum of 5000 hours, 2000 hours of this should be in command and 1000 hours in command in Cessna 208; Type ratings on Cessna 206, 208, 550 and BE200. The job demands experience in East Africa bush flying and airstrips, excellent verbal and written communication skills and detail oriented. Computer and IT skills are a must.
