Kenya Medical Training College Job Opportunities

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following posts tenable at the various campuses of the Kenya Medical Training College:

LECTURER
SCALE M11,

(Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition)

Salary Scale: Ksh. 25,491x604 - 26,095x698 - 28,887x806 - 30,499x889 - 32,277x89,6 - 34,069 pm

(a) Duties and Responsibilities

Duties at this level will involve:

  • participating in teaching and evaluating relevant subjects in their discipline areas;
  • assessing students in clinical areas;
  • organizing extra-curricula activities in the college/training Center;
  • guiding and counseling students in matters related to their academic and social welfare;
  • designing and developing instruments to assess health training needs;
  • developing guidelines for evaluation of health teaching materials for different health fields;
  • evaluating training programmes to determine their effectiveness and relevance with present and future health needs in the area of specialization;
  • developing guidelines for reviewing competence based curriculum in the health field;
  • planning and organizing Continuing Education Programmes for health workers in relevant areas;
  • undertaking consultancy in the area of specialization;
  • coordinating research in the area of specialization;
  • formulating and implementing new training strategies;
  • supervising post basic students on research projects;
  • identifying staff development needs; providing research-related consultancy services to the Ministry of Health and other health institutions; and
  • developing guidelines for curriculum development and review.

(b) Requirements for Appointment

Direct Appointment

For direct appointment to this grade, an officer must have Bachelors Degree in any of the following fields: - Clinical Sciences, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Public Health or any other relevant field.

Promotion

For promotion to this grade, an officer must have: -

(i) served as Lecturer 11 or in a comparable and relevant position for a minimum period of three (3) years;

and

(ii) shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

SENIOR LECTURER
SCALE M12,

(Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Occupational Therapy)

Salary Scale: Ksh. 35,275 x 1,764 • 37,039 x 1,852 - 38,891 x 1,944 • 40,835 x 2,042 • 42,877 pm

(a) Duties and Responsibilities


Duties at this level will involve:-
  • participating in teaching and evaluating relevant subjects in their discipline areas;
  • assessing students in clinical areas;
  • organizing extra-curricula activities in the college/training Center;
  • planning, developing and evaluating relevant and usable teaching materials;
  • identifying health problems;
  • planning and conducting relevant research;
  • planning, developing and evaluating curricular in the specific area of specialization;
  • guiding and counseling students in matters of their academic and social welfare;
  • evaluating teaching and learning activities; and
  • directing and coordinating courses assigned from time to time.

(b) Requirements for Appointment

Direct Appointment

For Direct appointment to this grade a candidate must have a Professional Degree in any of the following fields: Nursing, Medicine, Occupational Therapy or any other relevant field.

Promotion
For Promotion-to this grade, an officer must have: -
(i) served in the grade of Lecturer I or in a comparable and relevant position for a minimum period of three (3) years;
(ii) published at least one (1) Publication in a peer research/review journal and
(iii) shown merit and ability as a reflected in work performance and results.

PRINCIPAL LECTURER
SCALE M13

(Pharmacy, Clinical Medicine)

Salary Scale: Ksh. 40,835 x 2,042 • 42,877 x 2,144 • 45,021 x 2,251 x 47,272 x 2,364 - 49,636 pm

(a) Duties and Responsibilities
Duties at this level will involve: -
  • participating in teaching and evaluating relevant subjects in their discipline areas;
  • assessing students in clinical areas;
  • organizing extra-curricula activities in the college/training Center;
  • supervision of officers in-charge of Clinical areas;
  • planning and implementation of teaching and practical placement, master rotations for students;
  • designing and developing educational instruments for assessing students;
  • developing guidelines for evaluation of health teaching materials;
  • coordinating training activities for various courses and programmes;
  • conducting high level seminars/workshops or symposium for staff development in the respective training centres;
  • planning schemes of work, lesson plans and lecture materials in the respective departments.
(b) Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: -

(i) served in the grade of Senior Lecturer Scale Ml 2 or in a comparable and relevant position for a minimum period of three (3) years;
(ii) published at least (2) two Publications in a peer research/review journal;
(iii) attended a management course lasting for not less than four (4) weeks;
(iv) shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
