Program description: The GAP Treat/ARV program, under the KEMRI/CDC program, is supporting provision of HIV Care and Treatment services in Bondo, Siaya Districts and NNPGH of Nyanza Province. Due to its continued growth, the program has 8 openings for pharmaceutical technologists.

POSITION: Pharmaceutical Technologists (8 positions) MR 7 (Job Group K)

Location: NNPGH, Bondo, Rarieda, Ugenya, Gem and Siaya Districts of Nyanza province.

Reports to: Hospital Pharmacist and PSC In charge

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Must have Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from an institution approved by the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
* Must be registered with the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

Skills and Abilities:

* Must have a good understanding of available drug formulations, including antiretroviral drugs (ARV)s and drugs used in the treatment of opportunistic infections (OI)
* Conversant with drug storage conditions and drug inventory management
* Ability to coordinate and supervise drug requisition, reporting, quantification, distribution, consumption and dispensing
* Ability to work with minimal supervision, to coordinate clinic pharmacy.
* Excellent written/oral communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
* Ability to work well in a team, and be able to collaborate well with the Ministry of Health and other partners.
* Fluency in both English and Swahili, written and spoken. Knowledge of Dholuo is be an added advantage

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

* One year relevant work experience in a busy pharmacy.
* Experience in ARVs and OI drugs management, including requisition, reporting, quantification, distribution, consumption and dispensing.
* Good understanding and operation of MSH tool



JOB SUMMARY:

The pharmaceutical technologists will provide day to day guidance and oversight to pharmacy related issues within the KEMRI/CDC supported clinics in Siaya, Gem, Ugenya, Bondo and Rarieda districts in Nyanza.

Duties and responsibilities:

* With guidance from the KEMRI Pharmacy Coordinator and in liaison with MOH/DASCOs, District Pharmacists and KEMRI clinical teams provide coordination and technical support for pharmacy activities within the supported facilities.
* Coordinate drug requisition, reporting, quantification, distribution and consumption.
* Dispense drugs to patients and strengthen adherence
* Offer technical support, coordinate, supervise and perform day to day pharmacy activities within various health facilities in the district
* Carry out regular pharmacy Quality Audits in sites offering HIV care and treatment
* Facilitate linkages across KEMRI/CDC programs with the relevant stakeholders in relation to pharmacy activities.
* Perform any other duties as assigned by the Hospital pharmacist and PSC in charge



Terms of Employment: The contract is for one year renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service and a Probation period for the first 3 months. Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency.
