Technical Advisor - Gender and Human Rights Job Vacancy: International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF)

IPPF is an international association committed to promoting health and sexual and reproductive rights for all. It is an NGO working at the forefront in the field of health and sexual rights and reproductive activities which cover 182 countries. IPPF has six regional offices. The Regional Office for Africa is based in Nairobi and has 42 member associations in sub-Saharan Africa.

IPPF seeks a qualified candidate (with an excellent knowledge of French) for the post of Technical Advisor - Gender and Human Rights for the sub-region of West and Central Africa comprises 22 countries in sub-Saharan Africa

The Technical Adviser - Gender and Human Rights provides leadership in developing and implementing strategies based on gender and human rights by focusing on the needs and rights of sexual and reproductive health of people and marginalized groups and vulnerable

Main duties and responsibilities of the position:
  • Promote the fundamental values of the Africa Region on sexual and reproductive rights, gender equality and non - discrimination;
  • Develop strategies for effective advocacy, program development and capacity building to address gender issues, rights and sexuality;
  • Providing advice and technical support to partners and stakeholders in the formulation of new programs and policy approaches;
  • Facilitate and supervise the process of monitoring and evaluation activities related to gender and human rights;
  • To collect information on new and best practices for program-oriented and gender rights, and
  • Help create and maintain an image of IPPF worldwide in the field of gender and human rights
Qualifications and skills required: --
  • Experience of at least 5 years in a related field and an international NGO or similar organization;
  • A degree level of mastery in the social sciences and advanced application in the field of gender and human rights in Africa, including cross-cultural work;
  • Good technical knowledge and understanding of issues and programs related to gender and human rights and expertise in the development, implementation and evaluation of viable projects.
  • Excellent advocacy skills.
  • The candidate must demonstrate good leadership and have proven experience in teamwork.
  • Very good analytical skills, presentation and written communication.
  • Excellent command of French and a good knowledge of English is desirable and knowledge of Portuguese would be an advantage.
  • The position requires frequent travel in the subregion.
