African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI) Employment Opportunities

Established by African States with the financial support from the World Bank, the African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI) is a multilateral development institution dedicated to providing insurance, co-insurance, reinsurance and other financial services to foster trade with and investments in its African Member States for the purposes of promoting trade, investment and other productive activities in Africa.

The African Trade Insurance Agency seeks to fill the following positions:

1. Legal Expert

Under the supervision of the Ag. General Counsel & Chief Investor Relations Manager (CIRM), the Legal Expert will provide a wide range of legal and technical services including:
  • working with the underwriting team in the negotiation, vetting, interpreting, and drafting of proposed policy wordings, operational manuals, insurance offer letters, loan agreements/documentation and other associated documents;
  • assisting current and prospective member states in drafting, negotiating, and concluding various agreements with ATI and donors including (but not limited to) the World Bank and the African Development Bank as well as interpreting issues related to staff contracts, Partnership Agreements and all other contracts to which ATI is party.
Salary range: US$ 65,000- 75,000 per annum

2. Risk & Claims Officer (RCO)

Responsible for all claims handling as well as risk management and reporting.

The RCO will assist the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in policy risk management, claims management, loss prevention and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM).

A minimum of over 5-years experience in risk and claims management as well as professional qualifications in risk and claims management is required.

Experience in credit bureau data and products, development of and application of successful risk strategies, and experience in provisioning methodology is a pre-requisite.

Salary range: US$ 65,000- 75,000 per annum

3. Human Resource Specialist

The HR Specialist will serve as the primary management and will provide quality HR advice and support on:
  • compensation, benefits and performance management systems;
  • issues that affect the relationships between the organization and its employees', manpower needs including training and skills development requirements; staffing needs including over staffing and understaffing;
  • recruitment, including conducting interviews, and selection of applicants, as well as new employee orientation; and disciplinary issues.
The HR Specialist will be expected to have a minimum of 5 years experience in Human Resource management in an international organization supporting local and international staff.

Salary range: US$ 60,000- 70,000 per annum

4. Senior Credit Analyst

Responsible for:
  • updating credit analysis template;
  • carrying out credit review and monitoring processes;
  • undertaking periodic review of credit procedures with a view to achieving timely and accurate credit assessment of proposed transactions;
  • updating ATI's credit information database and obligor underwriting system;
  • analyzing historical and projected financial statements of potential and existing clients;
  • evaluating risks associated with individual applications for insurance, underlying projects and recommending appropriate risk mitigation measures;
  • continuously monitoring the quality of ATI's credit exposure portfolio by ensuring that limits are consistent and respected; and
  • identifying early warning signs of credit deterioration.
Salary range: US$ 65,000- 75,000 per annum

5. Underwriter- Rwanda & Burundi

Based in Kigali, Rwanda, the underwriter will be responsible for managing ATI's day-to-day business as it relates to the markets in Rwanda and Burundi;
  • promoting and marketing of ATI products;
  • underwriting eligible commercial and political risks and making recommendations to the Chief Underwriting Officer in Nairobi; and
  • administering existing insurance policies.
Thorough understanding of credit analysis, trade and project financing; commercial contract wording and ability to deal with complex project financing structures, and experience in a banking or insurance environment is required.

Salary range: US$ 42,000- 55,000 per annum

6. Bi-Lingual Executive Assistant(French/English)

Responsible for:
  • undertaking a full range of office support work including provision of secretarial and administrative services to the Chief Investor Relations Manager (CIRM);
  • undertaking written and oral translation of documents during meetings, and undertaking follow-up action as may be required;
  • managing international travel arrangements for the CIRM.
  • A minimum of 4 years experience, (preferably as a bilingual Administrative Assistant) is required.
Salary range: US$ 24,000- 36,000 per annum

7. Administrative Assistant

Responsible for:
  • providing secretarial and administrative services to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) including;
  • drafting minutes and undertaking follow-up action;
  • assisting the CFO in creating documents, letters, spreadsheets and power point presentations;
  • organizing and maintaining electronic and paper files for the CFO's office, including staff contracts, service and goods contracts, legal and policy documents.
Salary range: US$ 15,000-17,000 per annum
