Web Administrator Job Vacancy: African Union Commission

Job Title: Web Administrator
Grade: P3

Department: Directorate of Peace and Security
Duty station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Duration: One year

Profile of Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate should have strong writing, editing, journalistic, and computer skills, and a willingness to serve in a leadership role.

S/he should have the ability to multi-task and process information quickly, as well as the ability to make appropriate decisions under stressful conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for audience research, editorial policy and content ownership.
  • Responsible for information design, providing creative services (graphics, sound, video, etc.) and providing technical services (systems design, programming, etc.).
  • Schedule the creation/acquisition of content in accordance with editorial policy.
  • Allocate tasks to additional content contributors and edit copy received from additional content contributors.
  • Manage the creation/acquisition of content in accordance with the schedule.
  • Manage costs within agreed budgets.
  • Prepare textual content for websites (including feature articles, advertising copy, database content, links, FAQs, etc.).
  • Prepare textual content for e-newsletters.
  • Design web forms.
  • Prepare textual content for distribution as SMS messages.
  • Prepare scripts for audio voiceovers, for downloading from the site or distribution a ‘podcasts’.
  • Specify the multimedia content needed to support or work alongside textual content.
  • Locate and select appropriate, existing multimedia content, including still images, animations, music and video.
  • Liaise with multimedia specialists in the creation of any new multimedia content.
  • Clear copyright for the use of any existing content.
  • Use metadata and other methods to optimize search engine positions.
  • Communicate with other site owners in order to maximize incoming links.
  • Ensure the site is listed in relevant indexes and directories.
  • Respond to user enquiries, comments and suggestions.
  • Moderate forums and Chat sessions
  • Edit and/or approve content contributions made by users.
  • Update and maintain time-sensitive material.
  • Conduct or commission ongoing audience research.
  • Compile and analyze website usage statistics.
  • Obtain and analyze user feedback.
  • Recommend changes in editorial policy and site design.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, proof reading skills, and speaking.
  • Fluency in English and French are required;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments from a variety of staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by phone, with high professionalism.
  • Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision.
  • High expectations for quality.
  • Master’s degree in Communication studies, web design or a related field;
  • At least 2 years experience

Remuneration:

The salary attached to this position is an annual lump sum of US$ 79,903.40 inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
