Pharmaceutical Technologists KEMRI/CDC Program Vacancy Announcement

Program description:

This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

It involves conducting research and program support for activities related to malaria, HIV and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the Malaria Branch has the following vacancy in the Mal-055 Study (Malaria Vaccine study).

Position: Pharmaceutical Technologists (1)
MR 7 (Job Group K)

Location: Siaya District Hospital.

Essential Requirements:
  • Must have Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from an institution approved by the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
  • Must be registered with the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, to coordinate clinic pharmacy.
  • Excellent written/oral communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Fluency in both English and Swahili, written and spoken. Knowledge of Dholuo will be an added advantage
  • Basic Computer skills.
Desirable Requirements:
  • One year relevant work experience in a busy pharmacy.
  • Experience in pharmacy requisition, reporting, quantification, distribution, consumption and dispensing. ARVs and OI drugs management will be an added advantage.
Job Summary:

The pharmaceutical technologists will be involved with preparation of study vaccines, handling them during transportation and monitoring the cold chain process for EPI and study vaccines in the malaria vaccine study.

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Study product safe handling and storage
  • Study product accountability
  • Issuing study product
  • Preparing and dispensing study drugs/ vaccines
  • Ensure that the pharmacy procedures comply with protocol guidelines
  • Participate in the development and review of pharmacy related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Randomization of study subjects using the online SBIR process
  • Ordering non-study medicines
  • Receiving non-study medicines
  • Non-study medicines handling and storage
  • Non-study medicines accountability
  • Issuing non-study medicines
  • Preparing and dispensing non-study medicines
  • Pharmacy Quality Assurance and Control to maintain quality standards in the pharmacy
  • Completion and maintenance of data clarification forms as the need arises.
  • Sign the confidentiality statement and maintain confidentiality and privacy of the research subjects as per the signed confidentiality statement
  • Form part of the developing and review of study source documents
  • Any other duties assigned by the Mal-055 Pharmacist.
Terms of Employment:

Six (6) one year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service and a Probation period for the first 3 months.

Remuneration:

Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on education levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency.

The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.
