VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT KEMRI/CDC PROGRAM : Nurse Counselor – (3 positions)

Program description: This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It involves conducting research and program support for activities related to malaria, HIV and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the Global Aids Program has the following vacancy in the Gap Treat/ARV program.

POSITION: Nurse Counselor – (3 positions) MR 7 (Job Group K)

Location: Nyanza PGH, Bondo, Rarieda, Siaya, Ugenya and Gem districts

Reports to: Health Facility In charge and PSC In charge

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Diploma in Nursing (Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse)
* Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya

Skills and Abilities:

* Have good understanding of HIV care and treatment including psycho-social aspects
* Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organization skills
* Ability to work well in a team, and be able to collaborate well with the Ministry of Health and other partners.
* Fluency in both English and Swahili, written and spoken. Knowledge of Dholuo is an added advantage



DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

* 1 year relevant work experience at a busy institution.
* Formal training in counseling.
* Ability to work well with the public, in a team and able to collaborate well with counterparts.



Duties and responsibilities:

The nurses will report to District HIV Care and treatment coordinator and perform the following duties;

1. With guidance from the HIV care and treatment district coordinator, assist the MOH staff in provision of care and counseling services at specific health facility with HIV and TB services.
2. Ensure that the patients receiving care and treatment at the facilities also receive necessary drug adherence counseling and other psychological support.
3. Offer mentorship to peer educators.
4. Facilitate linkages across different HIV programs areas at health facility level.
5. Coordinate prevention activities (PWP) at the assigned health facilities
6. Establish and coordinate the triage system within the various supported clinics.
7. Ensure all relevant documentation (registers, files and forms) are appropriately filled out and kept.
8. Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisors



Terms of Employment: The contract is for one year renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service and a Probation period for the first 3 months.

Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency.
