Program description: This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV and other diseases. There is currently a vacancy in the Malaria Mefloquine +CTX Study
POSITION: COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER/Study assistants (4 POSITIONS) mr 4
Location: Siaya and Bondo District Hospitals
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum Form 4 KCSE OR certificate
- Three years of working experience.
- Proficiency in written and verbal English.
- Must have strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
- Must be able to work in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability, and integrity.
- Clear handwriting.
- Willing to live in either Siaya or Bondo.
DESIRED QUALITIES:
- Experience in collecting data on pregnant women in an antenatal clinic and/or
Mothers in the labour and delivery ward.
- Fluency in Ki-Swahili and Dholuo.
- Certificate in community health/social work from a recognized institution will be an added advantage
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The CHW/STUDY Assistant will report to the Study Coordinator and will work closely with the field staff and laboratory staff. The CHW will recruit participants into the study, guide participants smoothly through study procedures, assist in proper follow-up of participants, and ensure the accuracy of data collected for the study.
SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The CHW/study Assistant’s responsibilities shall include but are not limited to the following:
- Inform potential participants about the research study.
- Guide participants through the consent process.
- Interview participants using a standardized questionnaire.
- Assist in proper follow-up of participants.
- Ensure privacy and confidentiality of all participants.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: A six (6) 1 year renewable Contract as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months.
RENUMERATION: Compensation is negotiable within the relevant pay grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.
