CARE Denmark is looking for a program coordinator who will have the overall responsibility for implementation of the Adaptation Learning Program (ALP) for Africa, which aims to reduce the impacts of climate variability and change on vulnerable households in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The ALP will be implemented in Ghana, Niger, Mozambique and Kenya in a staggered process over a 5 year period.
The successful candidate will be expected to take up the position by 1th of April 2010 on a 2 year contract. The location of the program coordinator is to be negotiated.
Responsibilities and tasks:
- Provide overall strategic and technical leadership to the program, in accordance with guidance from the program steering committee, to ensure the program achieves the highest standards of program quality
- Primary point for contact for CARE members and donors contributing to the program
- Technical support to program and country level activities
- Overall responsibilities for program finances
- Advisory supervision of country-level project managers, CBA Advisor, Gender Advisor, M&E Advisor, and the project accountant
- Advocacy and dissemination of learning
- A BSC in environmental science, natural resource management, relevant social sciences or other relevant field
- At least 5 years of programming experience in climate change, environment or a related field, preferably in Africa
- At least 3 years in a similar senior project/program position, preferably on a multi-country initiative
- Previous work with international organizations and in managing bilateral donor grants
- Proven skills in project/program planning, M&E, learning, reporting and budgetary monitoring
- Solid understanding of poverty and vulnerability issues
- Flexible, adaptable, dynamic and culturally sensitive
- Fluency in spoken and written English, working knowledge of French and/or Portuguese desirable
