Purpose of the Job
- To provide leadership with respect to the KHRC’s media and communication strategy and to provide institutional publicity.
Primary tasks
This is a senior position that requires experience in action-oriented research and advocacy, community organising and mobilising and the use of diverse forms of old and new media for advocacy around human rights protection and promotion.

The incumbent will be expected to:
- Conceptualise, design and implement the KHRC’s media and publicity strategy;
- Co-ordinate the compilation and dissemination of the KHRC’s periodic and annual reports;
- Provide leadership with respect to the production and dissemination of media, publicity and advocacy materials;
- Evaluate the information needs of the KHRC’s stakeholders and design and implement strategies to address them;
- Develop and ensure the distribution of media briefs on human rights issues being dealt with by the KHRC;
- Generate and maintain a database of relevant journalists, columnists, presenters, editors and other media workers for ensuring appropriate coverage of human rights issues and publicising the KHRC’s programme and project activities;
- Help maintain the KHRC’s image by ensuring coverage of the human rights issues being addressed by various programmes and projects;
- Ensure the KHRC’s website remains interactive, up to date and user friendly through effective web design, development and maintenance;
- Develop, implement and monitor the media and publicity programme and budget;
- Be a member of at least one of the KHRC’s internal committees;
- Perform any other tasks as assigned, from time to time, by management and/or the supervisor.
Competencies required
- University degree preferably in media/mass communications or related field;
- A post-graduate diploma in media /mass communication or related field;
- At least four years experience in related role (experience in the use of media for advocacy, media for social change or participatory communications would be an advantage);
- Experience in the use of information and communications technologies for advocacy (including website management);
- Experience presenting information in a clear and objective manner to a variety of target audiences;
- Technologically proficient in MS Office and relevant design, media, information technology and statistical packages.
