Ewaso Ngiro South Development Authority: Expression of Interest to Undertake a Pre-Feasibility Study of the Olkejuado Multipurpose Project

1. Background

Ewaso Ngiro South Development Authority (ENSDA) was established in 1989 by an Act of Parliament Chap 447 of the Laws of Kenya and started operations in 1991.

The Authority covers an area of 47,000 Km2 consisting of entire Narok, Kajiado and Transmara Districts and parts of Nakuru and Nyandarua Districts.

To date we cover 16 Districts curved from the original Districts. The Authority is mandated to initiate, plan and implement development projects within its jurisdiction.

The proposed Olkejuado Dryland Multipurpose Project (ODP) is geared towards utilization of flood waters to support livelihood in the Olkejuado basin.

2. Objectives of the study

The overall objective of the consultancy is to undertake a detailed pre-feasibility study of the proposed Olkejuado Multi-Purpose Project.

3. Scope of the study
  • To estimate multipurpose flood water harvesting and storage dams along the Olkejuado river,
  • Determine site location and various components of the project and costs
  • Develop appropriate recommendations for community capacity building: support development of resource user institutions; resource management plans ( for water, livestock and eco-tourism), livelihood activities, marketing and benefit sharing mechanism
4. Qualification of the Consultancy firm
  • Proven experience in similar work and
  • Posses capacity and capability to undertake the assignment
  • Proposed methodology for undertaking the project
