Sudan Productive Capacity Recovery Programme (SPCRP) is a four year programme contributing to the recovery of both human and physical productive capacities in Northern and Southern Sudan as a result of the long-lasting civil conflict or droughts.
SPCRP activities in South Sudan have two main components namely the capacity building component implemented by FAO and model investment projects implemented by GTZ-International Services.
SPCRP is implemented through the Government of Southern Sudan Ministry Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF).
The Aweil Irrigation Rehabilitation Project (AIRP) in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State is one of these SPCRP Model Projects.
The objective of AIRP is to increase food security, production and incomes of households through the restoration of Aweil Rice Irrigation Scheme and support small-scale rice development initiatives in the State.
For this programme, the organization is looking for experienced and committed Irrigation officer in Aweil.
Irrigation Officer

Irrigation Officer
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Project manager, the irrigation officer will:
- Plan, organize and co-ordination entire rice production process namely:
- Establish annual cropping plan together with tenants, extension staff and irrigation section
- Facilitate land preparation, seed selection and issuance to tenants, field crop management, Review procedures for allocation of irrigation plots, selection / screening the beneficiaries, acreage per tenants.
- Review and develop service agreements between tenant farmers and Rice Scheme management
- Facilitate formation of Farmers Groups for coordinated production and marketing of rice
- Develop training packages for farmer groups and extension workers on good agricultural practices, business planning production and marketing etc.
- Provide technical support for farmer groups and linkages to established input suppliers for promotion of rice production.
- Co-ordinate maintenance of canals, drying fields and farm machineries and train farmers groups on maintenance of irrigation infrastructure in consultation with irrigation engineer
- Establish Farm Field Schools through demonstrations and field days
- Collaboration and networking with other development partners (NGOs and private sectors).
- Prepare progress reports
Requirements (Qualifications)
- BSc in general Agriculture from recognized University and with relevant post graduate studies
- Minimum 5 years practical experiences in rice production
- Knowledge of Farmer Field School and participatory rural Appraisal
- Report writing, communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be willing to work under stressful conditions.
- Ability to communicate in one local language and Arabic added advantage
