Director, Performance and Development- Africa Madagascar: WWF Job Re-Advertisement

WWF, the global conservation organization, is seeking to recruit a Director, Performance and Development- Africa Madagascar

This is a senior management post to be based in the WWF-Africa/ Madagascar Programme Office (WWF-AMP), Nairobi, Kenya reporting to the Director, Programme Office Management in Gland (close to Geneva), Switzerland.

The position to will ensure high performing Programme Offices (POs) in the Region as well as coordinate the Programme activities in line with WWF’s global conservation strategy.

The incumbent’s responsibility is to support the Regional Representatives, co-ordinate the Africa/Madagascar Team and ensure strong Programme offices through performance development initiatives.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Provides advice and guidance to Africa Madagascar Programme (AMP) POs on general operational and management issues;
  • Provides effective leadership and line management to the Nairobi based Programme Office Management (POM) team;
  • Identifies and coordinates training and capacity building needs in POs and works with the home office and WWF Network to address them effectively;
  • Ensure that all POs in the region have sound strategic plans in place.
Key Requirements:
  • Advanced level degree in international business or finance, e.g., MBA;
  • At least 10 years management experience, with a proven track record in leading multi-cultural teams;
  • Broad knowledge of operational issues and performance management, including the development and implementation of successful Business Plans;
  • Previous experience working with international NGOs, especially in developing countries would be an advantage.
  • Strong management and leadership skills with a high degree of accountability;
  • Ability to coach and mentor senior staff in the region;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to interact with and influence senior management staff in POs and relevant staff in different functional areas in a positive manner;
  • Highly analytical and strategic with the ability to see the big picture and context;
  • Excellent written and spoken English and additional knowledge of French would be an asset;
  • Experience and a good understanding of operating in different cultural environment and managing remote teams;
  • Ability to drive change and high performance;
  • Decisive, proactive, and an excellent communicator;
  • Available to travel extensively;
  • Passion and commitment for conservation and sustainable development;
