General Manager, Vegetable Operations, Nairobi Job Vacancy: Homegrown

Consequently we are looking to bolster our managerial structure by adding exceptional fresh talent, a focused self starter who is able to underpin strategic business plans with operational best practice in order to create long term sustainable results.

General Manager, Vegetable Operations, Nairobi

Background:

The position will be based at Homegrown’s airport facility in Nairobi which employs more than 1000 people and processes in excess of 7000 tones of finished vegetable product annually.

Dedicated air freighters uplift export cargo daily to supply established retail partners.

This exciting position recognizes the need for a senior professional to work with, and lead a
team in developing an integrated strategy within our vegetable operation.

The Job:

Reporting to the Commercial & Operations Director for Vegetables, the person will work as an integral part of the team, managing operations such that we profitably maintain stakeholder satisfaction in a sustainable manner.

Key result areas are:
  • Plan, develop and implement lean operational processes aligned to best practice to deliver long term competitive advantage, growth and profitability.
  • To take cognizance of time, customer, quality, efficiency, environmental, commercial and sustainability objectives to deliver daily, weekly and monthly results.
  • Through effective communication, lead, mentor, manage and develop individuals and teams.
  • To contribute to the management of the company and to promote a culture that enables people to think, be stimulated and to enjoy what they do as a valued member of the Finlays - Homegrown team.
The person:

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications / competencies:
  • Demonstrable operational management experience in devising and implementing business-relevant strategy, preferably at a senior level within a large company. The depth of experience and skill should be such that people and line management competence can be taken for granted.
  • Self driven, reliable and motivated, being positive in outlook with a hands on and energetic approach in seeing things through to conclusion.
  • Highly numerate, literate and computer literate.
  • Experience in managing, handling and planning across a multi-site operation with good project management skills and preferably lean manufacturing knowledge.
  • Fresh produce and retail experience an advantage.
  • Able to structure a plan, marshal resources, work as a team and deliver on commitments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, persuasive and with the gravitas to gain senior management confidence.
  • Should be a graduate and having experience of the agricultural, horticultural or related sector will have an added advantage.
