II. Job Duties and Responsibilities:
ACTED is currently seeking applications from qualified individuals to manage and oversee the implementation of the water and sanitation component under a drought preparedness program funded by ECHO and the EC.
Activities include the rehabilitation of boreholes, construction and rehabilitation of sand dams, earth dams, pans, rock catchments etc. using a labour intensive approach as well as strengthening of water user associations.

Activities include the rehabilitation of boreholes, construction and rehabilitation of sand dams, earth dams, pans, rock catchments etc. using a labour intensive approach as well as strengthening of water user associations.
Specific duties include:
- To set up, plan, supervise and monitor the implementation of the water and sanitation component;
- To manage and oversee the work of the water technicians, pump mechanics and hygiene promoters;
- Supervising construction and rehabilitation works of water infrastructure, and ensuring works are carried out as per set standards;
- Preparing bills of quantities for water infrastructure works;
- Preparing budget estimates for construction and rehabilitation related activities;
- Preparing engineering drawings and designs;
- Monitor quality and quantity of materials used in the field;
- To assess the activities undertaken and ensure efficient use of resources;
- To ensure the water, sanitation & hygiene promotion representation of ACTED in North Pokot through various co-ordination group meetings and through contacts with various partners;
- To actively pursue contacts with local government officials, and with NGO and UN representatives on a regular basis;
- To develop ACTED’s capacity and knowledge on water, sanitation & hygiene promotion issues in North Pokot;
- Conducting technical assessments whenever required.
- Preparing monthly work plans and reporting on actual work achieved against planned.
- Supervising site supervisors and masons, ensuring that the workmanship is as per set standards.
III. Qualifications Required
- Educational background in Civil or Water Engineering plus sanitation and Sanitation ideally combined with health;
- At least 4 years experience in managing and implementing water and sanitation activities;
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership in the field of water and sanitation engineering;
- Being a strong team player and adept at creating a strong team spirit;
- Proven ability to work creatively and independently both in the field and office;
- Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people;
- Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people;
- Ability to travel and work in difficult conditions and under pressure;
- Excellent spoken and written English;
- Fluency in Pokot an added advantage
