icipe has approximately 300 staff to support its research and capacity building programmes, located at various sites in Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan.
icipe's Discovery of Natural Products seeks to fill the position of Technician, with a suitably qualified person in the fields of biological sciences.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required among other things to discharge the following duties and responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required among other things to discharge the following duties and responsibilities:
- Assist in the implementation of conservation projects in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
- Field sample collection and recording of ecological details and geographical position
- Processing of samples for discovery of natural products and formulation.
- Recording and tracking of biological samples using the bar-coding system;
- Undertaking Bioassays of samples against target insects pests
- High through-put screening of biological samples for insecticidal activities;
- Data acquisition and processing for scientific approval and analysis.
- Coordinate the use and maintenance of project vehicles
- Assist visiting scientists and postgraduate students and other students in field and laboratory work
- Ensuring maintenance of clean and safe laboratories as per international laboratory procedures
- Carry out advanced scientific experiments as described by scientists within icipe’s procedures and guidelines.
Requirements
- At least 10 years experience in implementation of conservation projects
- More than 15 years driving experience with an accident free driving license;
- Advanced experience in field sample collection, including the recording of ecological details and geographical positions of samples;
- Experience in the use and operation of sample processing equipment;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and results obtained in the cause of research
- Certificates in Emergency Aid and fire fighting
- Competence in computer skills.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
