Background:
VSF Germany is a humanitarian and developmental international NGO, implementing projects in animal health, food security, emergency, rehabilitation; disaster preparedness, research and governance since more than a decade in the region. We seek to recruit a highly motivated Agronomist to support the EC Food security and livelihood improvement project.
The Agronomist will be based in Malakal Upper Nile State South Sudan the main responsibility of the position is to provide support to implementation of the agricultural related components of the EC Project, ensuring that they are implemented in line with the EC Project objectives set out in the project proposal.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take lead in supporting farmers to start vegetable growing using small-scale irrigation
- Support Community motivators to Identify, register, and verify target beneficiaries
- Support the design, establishment, and operation of Farmers Field Schools (FFS)
- participate in training of community members in fruit trees (citrus/mango) production, management and marketing
- Contribute to the identification of community structures (CBOs, SNGOs) capacity building
- Support partners to implement agreed component of the EC Project
- Supervise the work of community Motivators in the area of operation
- Arrange and facilitate government and community level consultations meetings to create awareness on the EC project
- Take lead in post -distribution monitoring of seeds, tools, equipment and training provided throughout the life-span of the project
- Document at all stages of project, prepare progress reports and contribute to donor reports
- Contribute to monitoring, review, and evaluation of the project
Qualifications, Experience, Attributes & Skills required
- University Degree in Agronomy/Agriculture
- Past working experience in South Sudan/East Africa
- At least three years experience in agro-pastoral communities
- Good computing skills, including MS Word and Excel
- Good communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong initiative, flexible and able to plan and implement work plan with minimum supervision
