Save the Children UK in Kenya invites organisations to contact it who are interested in becoming a sub grantee in a European Community (EC) grant in Food Facility entitled “Using Food Aid to Stimulate Markets in Pastoral Communities” in Turkana and Wajir Districts.

- Supporting local agricultural producers and traders to improve the quality and quantity of protein rich foods on local markets
- Building the capacity of local livestock health services and the availability of veterinary products
- Training and in-kind support to local traders to improve the quality of products for sale
a) be registered as a non profit organisation in Kenya;
b) have implemented similar activities in the last 5 years at
i) a similar scale to outlined above or
ii) at a smaller scale with details of how this is replicable at a larger scale, and in both cases with
iii) provision of technical monitoring information to demonstrate overall impact of these activities
c) have technical knowledge in livestock production techniques and experience of training local producers in the local traders in the Arid and Semi Arid Lands and understanding of the situation prevailing in the implementation areas (Turkana and Wajir Districts); and
d) have operational capacity in order to start almost immediate implementation of the activities

The Tender Committee will consider tenders from a maximum of 5 organizations.
The last date for tender submission will be close of business on 17:00 hours 18 January 2010.
The bidders will be notified of the decision on 24 January 2010 and a contract will be signed with successful bidder by 31 January 2010 with implementation to begin on 1 February 2010.
