Government of Japan Import Support Programme of Japanese Yen 1,000,000,000 (KES 827,020,000) to finance import of goods call for import funding

The Government of Japan has made available to the Government of Kenya an Import Support Programme of Japanese Yen 1,000,000,000 (KES 827,020,000).

This programme is designed to help finance a wide range of imported new goods including raw materials and finished goods.

The programme is untied and goods do not need to be of Japanese origin.

NB: This is a rapid disbursing programme and is not suitable for Project funding.

Please note that applications will be processed strictly according to the terms of the programme and criteria as set by the implementing committee.

Applications for an allocation of funds [minimum value Japanese Yen 6,045,803 (KES 5 Million) and maximum value Japanese Yen 24,183,212 (KES 20 Million)] are hereby invited from importers.

Applications complete with all supporting documents must be received between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. NOT later than 1 February 2010 at 5.00 p.m.

The Terms of the Programme are as follows:-

(I) Eligible goods for import are as per UNSITC codes (Rev. 2) listed below, full descriptive details of eligible goods are available at Crown Agents Nairobi office:

(II) All companies who have participated in both JNPGA Kenya Year 20(2006) and 21(2007) (previous grants) will NOT be eligible for this grant.

(III) The grant will automatically exclude end users who have not paid any overdue Counter Value Funds (CVF) from the previous grants.

(IV) Importer to pay the full FOB value of goods as follows:

a. Payment to be made in Kenya Shillings fixed at the average exchange rate for September 2009 (100 Japanese Yen to KES 82.7020)

b. Ten percent deposit, payable to the Ministry of Finance by a bankers cheque on approval of application

c. Ninety percent balance payable to the Ministry of Finance by a banker’s cheque 360 days from the date the goods arrive in Kenya.

d. Payment of the ninety percent to be secured by a bank guarantee, drawn on an approved bank

(V) All procurement under the programme will be undertaken by the Crown Agents.
