Preamble
The Government is implementing reforms in the Water Sector which are guided by the National Policy on Water Resources Management, the National Strategy on Water Services Provision and the Water Act 2002.
These documents provide the policy, institutional and legal/regulatory framework for operationaization of the reforms whose objectives is to introduce efficiency in the sector management and service delivery through decentralization, stakeholder participation, harmonization of roles and responsibilities, and enhancing sustainability of service provision.
Tanathi Water Service Board (TAWSB) which is a state corporation is one of the eight Water Service Boards within the country that were established under the Water Act 2002 with the mandate of provision of potable, economical and affordable water and sewerage services within the areas of their jurisdiction.
TAWSB covers the ASAL districts of Kajiado Central, Kajiado North, Loitoktok, Machakos, Matungulu, Kangundo, Mwala, Lower Yatta, Yatta, Kitui Central, Kitui West, Mutomo, Mwingi East, Mwingi Central, Mwingi West, Athi River, Mutitu, Nzambani, Muumoni, Kyuso, Makueni, Nzaui, Kibwezi, Mukaa, Kathonzweni, Kilungu, Makindu, Kathiani, Masinga, Mbooni East and Mbooni West.

The roles and responsibilities of Board include:
- Provision of efficient and economical water and sewerage services in the Boards area.
- Ownership and holding or leasing of water and sewerage assets/infrastructure.
- Planning, development, rehabilitation and expansion Water and Sewerage Services infrastructure.
- Contracting out water and sewerage services provision to Water Service Providers (WSPs).
- Monitoring and supervision of water and sewerage services provision in its area of jurisdiction.
It can only be achieved with an effective, utilization and development of the infrastructure, management of utilities and close collaboration with our stakeholders.
About Mwala Water Services Company Limited.
Tanathi Water Services board has 100% ownership of all the water supply infrastructure at Mwala Water Supply, Mbiuni Water Supply, Wamunyu Water Supply and Ikalaasa Water Supply, all of which serve approximately 83,000 consumers through 2,820 connections, several trading centers and most public institutions in Mwala district.
Currently, the water supplies are under Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) providing Services as Board agencies, which are too ill-prepared and structured for effective and sustainable management owing to their small size, and other numerous technical and managerial drawbacks and hardly break- even commercially.
It is against this background that the Board has embarked to prioritize the restructuring of the management of these water supplies by placing their management under one entity: Mwala Water and Sanitation Services Co. in order to benefit from economies of scale and optimize on human capital at Board and local level.
It is envisaged that a further 16No. boreholes that are earmarked to be drilled by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation under JICA funding shall also be handed over to the new company for management.
The Board shall also hand over all other schemes to be developed in the district to the new company. The new company shall, therefore, have the sole legal mandate of providing water and sanitation services in Mwala District.
Consequently, the board hereby invites Mwala District/Constituency professionals and change agents willing to serve as directors of the company to express their interest.
Regional and gender distribution will be a criteria for consideration.
The expression of interest requires minimum qualification of ‘O’ level certificate and above with preference given to professionals practicing or retired i.e. Medical Doctors, Teachers, Engineers, Businessmen, Elected leaders and Church leaders.
