Policy Associate Employment Opportunity: IPAS Africa Alliance, Nairobi, Kenya

Ipas is an international NGO specializing in women's reproductive health care and rights.

Its Africa Alliance Regional office in Nairobi which supports reproductive health policy and programs in East, Southern and Francophone Africa seeks to employ a qualified person for the position of Policy Associate.

The incumbent will be responsible for policy and advocacy related activities that focus on improving access to safe abortion in the Regional Policy Unit of the Africa Alliance and also contribute to the Alliance program unit and Ipas global initiatives.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Policy and Advocacy:
  • Contributes to development of strategic vision and related activities for defined areas of the Africa Alliance's regional policy and advocacy work in specific countries.
Implementation:
  • Plans and implements policy activities and projects, consistent with Alliance organizational priorities, desired results and high standards of quality.
Representation:
  • Supports and develops partnerships with regional networks and health institutions, government and private sector organizations and advocates for policies and programs that maximize impact and resources to further women's reproductive health and the mission of Ipas.
Writing and Reporting:
  • Supports the Vice President for Africa in developing presentations and concept papers and background materials for workshops, conferences and events and donor proposals.
Supervision:
  • Supervises the Policy Coordinator, Policy Assistant and designated consultants, provides guidance and supervision to ensure that each team member performs his/her responsibilities toward desired results, and encourages teamwork to meet overall objectives.
Core Requirements
  • Master's degree in relevant discipline preferred;
  • 5+ years relevant work experience, including in the area of sexual and reproductive rights, networking, advocacy in developing countries;
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Africa and internationally, up to 30% of working days annually;
  • Work experience in Africa required; some multi-country exposure an advantage
  • Knowledgeable about the Africa Region, Institutions, organizations and establishments,
