Ministry of Public Health & Sanitation Job Vacancies

The Ministry of Public Health & Sanitation is recruiting four thousand two hundred nurses (4200) under the Economic Stimulus Package to promote Preventive Health Care at the Lower Levels of our health care service delivery systems, twenty (20) nurses per constituency.

The details are as indicated below:

Enrolled Community Nurse (2960)

Terms: Contract ( 3 years)
Salary entry point at civil service Job Group ‘G’

Duties and Responsibilities

This is the entry grade into the Enrolled Nurses Cadre.

Work at this level involves a variety of duties and responsibilities of a limited scope and complexity at dispensaries and health centres.

It is performed under appropriate guidance from the Ministry and include planning and execution of nursing care for individuals, families or group of patients.

An Enrolled Community Nurse will be expected to observe specific procedures.

Requirements

For appointment to the grade of Enrolled Nurse III candidates must:-
  • Have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent qualifications with at least a C in Biology and English or Kiswahili and a C- in any other two (2) Science subjects; and
  • Have successfully completed at least pre-service training at a recognized Medical Training Institution and have been awarded the Enrolled Community Nurse certificated by Nursing Council of Kenya to practice.
Registered Community Health Nurse (1260)

Terms: Contract (3) years
Salary entry point at civil service Job Group ‘H’

Duties and Responsibilities

This will be entry grade into the Nursing Officers cadre.

Work at this level will be limited in scope and complexity and will be carried out under the guidance of a more senior officer.

Specifically, duties and responsibilities will involve:-
  • Provision of health care services, including supervision in dispensaries and Health Centres. In addition the officer will be expected to assess the needs of patients with regard to nursing services;
  • Verify and maintain information relating to patient admissions;
  • Keep records of drugs and other supplies; and
  • Guide, supervise and counsel staff performing routine clinical duties.
Requirements

For appointment to the grade of Registered Community Health Nurse, a candidate must:-
  • Be in a possession of at least Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with at least a C in Biology, English or Kiswahili and a C- in any other two (2) science subjects: and
  • Have successfully completed pre-service training at a recognized training institution and have been awarded Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse Certificate and been licensed by the Nursing Council to practice.
