Transparency International (TI) Careers: Development of the Elimika - Know Your Rights Publications

Transparency International - Kenya (TI-Kenya) is a non profit organisation that aims to promote a transparent and corruption free Kenya and good governance and social justice initiatives.

Background

TI-Kenya is the author of Elimika series on Traffic Laws, Police Arrest and the Courts. Elimika means “Be enlightened” in Kiswahili. As the name suggests, TI-K intends to promote active engagement between the citizenry and the public service delivery institutions so that citizens can be equipped with skills to demand for transparency and accountability.

In line with TI-K’s strategic priority to empower citizens to proactively demand for transparency and good governance, we intend to publish other issues of Elimika to educate the public on critical issues in an easy-to-read format.

Topics for consideration:
  1. Registration of births and deaths
  2. Hospital fees
  3. Agricultural inputs
Scope of the Exercise

Registration of Births and Deaths: The consultant will be familiar with laws of Registration of births and deaths. The study will educate the public on the importance registering for birth and deaths, it will also enlightened the citizen on their rights in registration of births and deaths and other rights emulated from these registration. The study will also highlight various registration and procedure for these registrations.

Hospital Fees: The consultant will be familiar with the challenges of accessing health and law and policies in guiding the health sector. The study will educate the public on various fees pertaining to public health. The study will highlight on constant various hospital fee including registration fees, admission fees and medial fees. It will also highlight fee waivers, subsidies and the process of attaining waivers and subsidies

Agricultural Subsidies: The consultant will be required to understand and familiarize him/herself with present related laws. This series will analyse the various agricultural bodies that exist looking at their relationship with the farmers. The series will educate the farmer on how they can access agricultural inputs and services from these institutions. It will also educate the farmers on how to seek redress when they face malpractices.

Methodology/Approach

The consultant will be required to review the present laws, conduct desktop research and interviews where necessary for backup evidence.

Duration of Assignment (Reports and Time Schedule)

The Consultant should complete this work within a maximum of 1 (one) month from the date of the acceptance and validation of bids and will be required to forward to TI-Kenya both soft and hard copies of the expected outputs.

Expected Outputs

To prepare and deliver to TI-Kenya a consolidated and a well researched, easy-to-read booklet on the topics provided.

Expected qualifications
  1. A postgraduate degree in the specific sector the publication is focusing on.
  2. 5-7 years experience in the specific sector the publication is highlighting.
  3. 5-7 years experience in research and documentation.
  4. Excellent analytical and writing skills.
