Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) Employment Opportunities

The Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) is a membership-based organization registered in Kenya and our members are drawn from within and outside the East Africa states.

We operate as a non-profit, non-political, non-denominational organization.

Our core role is to prepare, disseminate, and promote the exchange of information on matters affecting the regional grain industry with the express intent of promoting the regional grain supply chain.

We are looking for committed, innovative, independent thinking and energetic professionals to fill the following positions on a two year renewable contract basis.

Monitoring & Evaluation Specialist

The Monitoring and Evaluation Manager will provide technical expertise on the development and maintenance of our M&E system.

You will design and implement M&E tools and framework for all the programs in the council; collaborate with partners and stakeholders to implement and maintain M&E; provide technical inputs into proposal and annual works plans development; create and maintain procedures for capturing and publishing periodic and project reports; and support the dissemination of information both internally and externally.

You will also prepare terms of reference and other technical component for outsourcing M&E work.

Requirements: You will have a degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Social/Behavioral Sciences or a relevant discipline and five years of relevant work experience; a master’s degree is preferred.

Expertise in M&E and experience in project management cycle is essential.

Other requirements include: working in complex, multi-faceted and multi-cultural projects; extensive knowledge of economic and financial management; superior
communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; and sound writing and donor reporting experience.

Country Manager

The Country Manager will develop and coordinate EAGC Kenya Chapter Strategic plan.

You will be responsible for managing and coordinating operations in Kenya including; public policy advocacy, policy implementation, liaising with stakeholders in the Grain industry, fund raising, capacity building, programs budgeting and general management.

A key deliverable will be the growth of EAGC in Kenya in membership numbers and service provision.

Requirements: A degree in Agricultural Economics; Business Administration or a discipline relevant to commodity trading will be preferred.

You will also have at least 4 years of relevant experience in the Agricultural sector; Grain experience is desirable.

Other requirements include proven experience of strategic planning and business growth, people and program management and networking and advocacy experience.

Program Manager – Grain Trading

The Program Manager will provide technical direction and managerial oversight to improve national and regional trade in grain.

You will be responsible for developing and overseeing activities relating to structured trading systems; develop strategic plans; develop fees for services provided by the council; build capacity within the regional institutions to regulate the grain industry and effectively manage resources for the implementation of annual plans.

You will also assist in developing monitoring and evaluation systems; address bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the grain value chain and promote the use of contracts, arbitration, uniform standards and warehouse receipting systems.

Requirements: You will have a degree in Agricultural Economics, Business Administration or a relevant discipline; a postgraduate qualification is preferred.

You will also have 8 years experience in commodity trading or/and logistics preferably in the grains value chain.

A good understanding of Eastern Africa region; policies and procedures of commodity markets in the region also required.

Experience in contracting, arbitration, standards development and implementation and warehouse receipting systems is a definite advantage.

Marketing Information & Communications (MIC) Manager

MIC manager will be responsible for developing and implementing the Council’s regional marketing and communications strategy.

You will develop and maintain internal and external communication; manage key communication channels and media relations; market services available to stakeholders and recruit members; and coordinate internal and external events including management of conferences and organization briefings.

Corporate branding will be a key deliverable.

Requirements: A degree in Agribusiness or Agricultural Economics and a Diploma in Marketing, Public Relations or/and Communication Studies is required; a masters qualification will be an added advantage.

You will also have at least five years experience in corporate communications management and have developed strong media relations and excellent writing and presentation skills.

Experience of publishing, production of promotional materials and corporate branding is essential. A good understanding of Eastern Africa region; policies and procedures guiding Agricultural industry in the region also required.

Research Officer

You will be in charge of all research development within the Council.

Your role will be to plan and conduct research projects as well as coordinate staff for the development, implementation and evaluation of research and analysis within the Council.

The identification of appropriate areas of research based on needs assessments, selection of information systems and sources to be used for studies and the establishment of methods and procedures to assure quality date collection, parameters for design of databases in consultation with information technology staff will be your responsibility.

Requirements: You will have a degree in Statistics or Social Sciences and 3 years experience of undertaking extensive research work.

Experience must include analyzing of data using SPSS and other statistical packages and the production of research reports

Finance Assistant

Reporting to the Finance & Administration Manager, you will be in charge of overseeing program activities and operations and contribute to development of overall regional agenda.

Duties will include ensuring that accounting standards and practices are adhered to, payment processing, banking, financial accounting and generation of reports, supporting financial auditing and budgeting.

You will also provide administrative support services such as payroll processing and general filing.

Requirements:

We are looking for a business degree holder with a CPA 3 and at least three(3) years experience in a busy finance office.

Experience should include general ledger maintenance, grant or project accounting and the use of an accounting package as well as MS Excel and Word.

You will also have the ability to work under pressure, observe deadlines and a keen eye for detail.
