CARE International in Kenya is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified candidate for the position of Workshop Foreman for its Emergency and Refugee Operations (ERO) Project in Dadaab, Garissa District.

Reporting to the Mechanical Services Coordinator, the Workshop Foreman will be responsible for ensuring shop capacity loading and turnaround, supervision of the mechanical services team, strict adherence to workshop safety and fire precaution, requisition of spare parts, workshop maintenance tools and materials, preparation of workshop floor situational reports and
maintenance of vehicle service schedules.

Job Summary

maintenance of vehicle service schedules.
Key Responsibilities and tasks;
- Supervise and offer hands - on technical advice and guidance to the workshop team.
- Requisition parts and materials and keep an updated record of jobs and immediately bring procurement needs to the attention of the Coordinator in a timely manner.
- Be responsible for preparing a cost analysis on vehicle maintenance and advice the sector Coordinator accordingly.
- Prepare accurate and up to date workshop weekly and monthly Situational reports.
- Ensure workshop safety and fire regulations are strictly adhered to minimize accidents, injury and other hazards.
- Ensure workshop tidiness and cleanliness.
- Prepare quarterly Maintenance Schedules for all mission vehicles every three months and follow up to eliminate causes of delays in repair of vehicles or equipment.
- Ensure that all maintenance and repairs of vehicles and equipment are carried out in accordance to the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Responsible for testing vehicles, equipment and certifying repair work done on vehicles and equipment.
- In liaison with the procurement team, ensure timely delivery of high quality service/repair kits.
Qualifications and competencies;
- A Degree in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognised institution.
- At least 5 years hands on experience in a busy Workshop.
- Those with a Higher Diploma in MVE with at least 7 years relevant experience will be considered.
- Cost management, budgeting and proposal writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, innovative in operation and maintenance of automobiles and technological development.
- Good communication and facilitation skills, a self-motivated and energetic person who can work with minimal supervision.
- Must be computer literate in word processing and spreadsheets.
