Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Salary: £ 19,240 – 25,058 net per annum plus benefits

Oxfam GB, Kenya works with pastoralists and other marginalised communities in Arid and Semi Arid Lands (ASAL) as well as the urban centres to fight against poverty.

Oxfam GB's programme in the ASALs links emergency interventions and approaches that foster sustainable livelihoods, recognising the intimate relationship between acute needs and chronic poverty.

The post holder will provide a high level of sectoral technical leadership ensuring that all livelihood and food security elements are designed, implemented and monitored effectively, where elements are integrated and that the programme demonstrates a high level of learning, rigour and innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on overall livelihoods and food security programme design in line with disaster risk reduction (DRR) and demonstrating cross-project and cross-sectoral linkages
  • Provide technical leadership in skills development and adoption of key analytical and monitoring tools (including Household Economy Approach (HEA) and Integrated Phase Classification (IPQ).
  • Ensure that analysis leads to the development of timely and relevant implementation strategy.
  • Lead on the technical design and implementation of the Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP) administration component's contracted responsibilities, ensuring coherence and consistency between partners and that planning is integrated.
  • Actively participate in policy and practice definition specifically relating to safety nets and wider social protection at the national level and contribute to organisational positioning based on evidence and experience drawn from the programme.
  • Support advocacy work at national level on improving responses to hunger and food crises and ensure that learning from the programme feeds into national and global level policy and campaigning work.
  • Support fundraising for Livelihoods and Food Security projects and reports are complied to a high level of technical quality
You will have:
  • M.Sc. or equivalent in Food Security or related degree.
  • Substantial international experience in designing and managing food and income security and social protection programmes with proven implementation in humanitarian and development contexts.
  • Understanding of pastoralists' livelihoods would be desirable.
  • Demonstrated collaborative approach with an ability to liaise constructively with multilevel partners (government, private sector and civil society) and with training and counterpart development skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills demonstrated through proven experience in establishing relevant project monitoring systems, assessment, design and proposal development.
  • Knowledge and experience of PRA methods, HEA and IPC.
  • Well developed interpersonal and team skills and proven ability to be flexible in demanding situations.
  • Good written and spoken English would be essential.
